(3) Mark Your Bible (1 minute). If If this is your everyday Bible feel free to mark in it the way the Holy Spirit
impresses upon your heart.
(4) Meditate on the Passage (3 minutes). If you are not fa-
miliar with Christian Meditation (in its biblical sense)
meditation is the process of deliberately focusing on specific
thoughts (such as a bible passage) and reflecting on their
meaning in the context of the love of God. In other words it
simply means to muse, or rehearse in your mind, that particu-
lar verse, thought, or revelation. For example, if I
were to meditate on the passage from Ephesians
1:15-23, I would concentrate and meditate on
verse (18), I pray that the eyes of your heart may
be enlightened, so that you will know what is thehope of His calling, what are the riches of the glo-
ry of His inheritance in the saints. I would just
rehearse that verse over and over again and just
marvel at it.
(5) Record Your Insights (3 minutes). It is now
time to pull out your journal (if you have not done
so already). Record, in your own words, the in-
sights that the Holy Spirit has given to you. For example: Wow! God has a calling for me. I am wondering what
that calling is? Maybe it is . . .
(6) Write your Prayer of Application (0.5 minutes). Now, in your journal, write your own prayer. Based on
that passage, if I were you, I would write something like this: Father God, please open my eyes to see Christ with
clarity, open my ears to hear the Holy Spirit with accuracy, open my mind to understand the Word with precision, open my heart to accept Your will with gladness, and give me the will to surrender totally to Your plan and calling
in my life. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
(7) Pray Passage Back to God (0.5 minutes). At this point you could personalize Pauls prayer and pray it
back to God. Or just pray one more time to God the prayer you wrote in step 6.
(8) Pray about Other Things you Need. (2.5 minutes).
Not too difficult, is it? Well, if we cultivate these quiet times and practice them on a regular basis, this may de-
velop into a good habit. Bottom line is this: spending time with God is what our inner being really needs in order to
grow and mature into the likeness of Christ. I like the lyrics of one Christian song: The more I seek You/The more
I find you/The more I find You/The more I love You/.
If you want to learn more about these subjects and many others, consider enrolling in our Advanced Disciple-
