Open House Held By Red-fearn Day Care Outer To Observe Anniversary
After nine years of keeping hundreds of children happy, the Child Care Center at Rodfearn Houses in Far Rockaway celebrated by holding a noisy open house recently during Child Car© Week.
Mrs. Joel Dolkart, president of the local board and Mrs. David Ashkin, a board member and president of the Rockaway section of the National Council of Jewish Women, sponsors of the Center, have announoed they were pleased with the public interest shown by the many visitors attending the event.'
Mrs. Bruce Sherfield, directress at the Center, said the visitors flooded her with questions about how she was able to keep 60 small children, from the ages of three to six, happy all day long. She remarked that a careful system of naps and "lie downs" plus a well organized play period accounted for her success.
"If Mary wants to paint," she said, "and Joe wants to learn rhythm on a tambourine, that's great, because the playrooms are divided into many areas of varied ac tivities,." She continued, "The children are offered a thousand outlets for their imagination and fingers * we even have a guinea pig which is growing fat from the children's offerings."
At present Mrs. Ashkin and Mrs. Dolkart/ both from Belle Harbor, are working to increase the enrollment because they can handle more children, whose parents must have a place to leave them during the day.
But even with all the problems of finance, personnel, and equip ment the ladles must meet, they both agreed that their contribution was a small thing when they can see so much happiness shining from so many eyes.
