In season

In season Autumn Night falls. Leaves whisper back to earth. Stars appear. Something flares above the stormy hill. Winter One thick vest and a woollen jumper hang on a line. An alley cat shakes off snow and purrs. Spring The old woman was once in her season. She leant on a broom. Eyes rested on wet flowers. The haunting of birds had begun. Summer Now, arms bare, she sweeps her steps, growing tired in the heat. Bluebottles circulate in the air. She kneels, closes her eyes and becomes dust. The wind lifts her over steps into the sky.
