MAIN FEATURES OF THE SAIPEM LEADERSHIP IN SAFETY WORKSHOP Saipem Safety Vision. The Saipem Safety Vision was born when the CEO called his most senior leaders in Milan to develop a vision for Saipem’s safe future. It was designed to be a vision specific to Saipem, and for everyone to embrace, a target for us all to work towards. A vision of a multicultural and frontier company where we are winners through a passion for safety. Safety Leadership Expectations. Safety leadership expectations are the backbone of safety leadership in Saipem. A set of competencies, what Saipem expects of its managers and leaders. Developed through Internal research, there are 7 main areas of expectation. Each area has sub elements, totaling 69 specific actions, activities and behaviours, defining what is expected of a mature safety leader in Saipem today. Safety Leadership Profiler. The profiler is an online questionnaire which provides individuals with personal feedback on their distribution of focus over the seven safety leadership expectations. Each question forces a choice of preferences, to give a trend of focus represented in the report. It allows individuals to develop personal action plans, targeting areas of improvement for future self development. Five Stars - Safety Intervention Tool. Saipem created a simple 5 steps tool to help our employees intervene effectively without creating conflict, both on unsafe acts and to reinforce safe behaviors. It is a tool which will be disseminated throughout the organization to normalize intervention. The Film - The Safer The Better. Each of the workshops interactive learning sessions are prompted by scenes from the LiS film. This intelinked media tool brings strong messages from the CEO to the target audience. It reflects Saipem people, operating environments, and the story is both engaging and heart hitting. Saipem Leadership in Safety and theFilm “The Safer, The Better” have beeninternationally recognized with thefollowing awards:

Saipem Leadership in Safety has beenstrategically developed from acorporate level to disseminatethrough the entire organization. The program was initiated from thevery top, with Saipem’s CEO andManaging Director playing the role ofcatalysts for the project, as theypersonally recognized the need for acultural change.

The CEO gained commitment for theproject from his most seniormanagement levels through a one dayevent held in Milan, when the SaipemSafety Vision was created.

A clearly defined top down approachenables each level of management tobecome safety ambassadors. Givingsponsorship to the next levels in orderto touch every manager within the

organization, by delivering keymessages down to every employee.

This is done in three distinct phases.

Phase 1 - Delivery of Leadership inSafety workshop to all managementlevels.

Phase 2 - Senior Managers cascadingthe key Leadership in Safety messagesto the entire workforce through highinfluential events.Phase 3 - Delivery of the Five StarsIntervention training tool throughoutthe organisation.

WHY DID SAIPEM FEEL THE NEED FOR LEADERSHIP IN SAFETY?

Despite the fact that Saipem had goodsafety performance, it was recognisedthat people had been injured or worsewhilst working for Saipem, and thiswas morally unacceptable.

Our CEO was the one who drove thismessage, with the thought that somepeople have the wrong impression, that Saipem expects its people to puttheir life at risk in order to save time ormoney.

This is simply not what is expected, and our CEO wanted to clarify this.

We also know that 90% of ouraccidents are behaviourally related, sowe have to target these behaviours ifwe want to achieve the rightculture…A culture through whichworking safely becomes a constant;working unsafely becomesunforgivable.

HOW TO ACHIEVE THE RIGHTCULTURE?

Saipem believes that it is possible to instilthis culture through effective safetyleadership, as it’s our leaders who buildand shape the culture we have, throughtheir everyday messages, decisions, actions, and inactions!

Therefore, Saipem set up a task forcewith the aim to create a Leadership inSafety program tailored to our ownoperating realities and challenges, targeting the leaders who have impacton the culture of our organisation today.

Saipem researched Leadership in Safetyand developed internally its ownprogram. A program to touch minds, but hit the heart!

As part of the program, a workshop wasdesigned and disseminated with a top-down strategy throughout theorganisation.

The first LiS workshops began with thesenior levels of Saipem and were held inMilan with the Business Units directorsand managers. They then became sponsors in their owngeographical areas, requesting andopening each workshop.

And the process continues globally, through every level of management, driving, sponsoring, empowering andsupporting the next levels. Aftereighteen months over 200 workshopswere organised with more than 3000participants.

Workshops are delivered by a pool of 20Saipem HSE Professionals, developedinternally as LiS Workshop Facilitators.
