What is a VLOG?
A Vlog is simply a blog that includes video content.
The first vlog can be traced back to 2000. A guy called Adam Kontras set up a blog to keep his friends up to date with his journey to Los Angeles. This blog included a video smuggling a cat into a ‘no pets’ hotel and the vlog was born.
Vlogging really took off after YouTube was launched in 2005 and the rise of the Smartphone which provides easy access to those who want to vlog. The smartphone also allowed vloggers to film their daily experiences.
Today 44% of all internet users watch a vlog at least once a month.

When you put your life on the internet what can go
wrong?
The driving question for today’s lesson.
As a successful vlogger you live your life in public and this can mean that you have very little privacy. Vlogging is a more personal experience than other forms of social media as viewers can see the vlogger and engage with their personality.
This is something that popular Youtubers and married couple 👫 Archie Deyes and Zoella have complained about. They even took to Twitter to ask fans to stop coming to their house and peering through their windows.
What value do you place on your privacy?
What can go wrong?

Lessons 4 & 5🚖
What does it take to create a Vlog?
The driving question for today’s lesson.
🎥
🎥Let’s Create: Your task is to create a Youtube stye video aimed
at your parents from one of the following topics: 1. Explaining what a YouTuber is, what they vlog about and
what the pros and cons of being a Youtuber is. 2. Your School, make a vlog about what makes your school so
special, all the amazing things that take place in school. 3. Your Favourite Computer Game/Pop Star.
Being a youtuber
How hard can it be?
How long do you think an average vlog takes to create?
The average Youtuber says it will take 2-3 hours for a simple short vlog. More complex vlogs can take anything from 2-3 days to 2-3 weeks.
So what do you do to create a vlog? How do you decide on the purpose of the vLog? What equipment do you need? Can you think of anything else you would need to consider?
Once you’ve answered these questions you will need to decide on whether to write a script or not. REMEMBER you do not want any periods of silence in your videos so while you may not want to write a script you will need to be able to speak for 2-3 minutes without any uneasy silences. That can be tough but a script can help with that.

Lesson6🚖
Would you like to be a Vlogger when you grow up?
The driving question for today’s lesson.
Time for reflection
Add you video to your book if you are able to.
Now lets watch your video and critique it.
• Is the camera steady or does the person who is filming it shake a little? How could you resolve that?
• What’s the sound quality like? Can you hear your voice, is it at the same level throughout? Is there an echo to your voice? Is there any background noise?
• What about the quality of your picture? Does it look professional? How does the colour compare to the colour quality of say your HD TV at home?
• What’s happening in the background of your video? Does the setting reflect the image you want to portray?
What would you do differently next time?
Do you want to be a Vlogger when you grow up?
A survey of 1,000 children in 2017 found that YouTuber was the top career choice for children when they grow up. Second on the list was vlogger/ blogger. Is it something you would like to do?
You have to be 13 to have an account on YouTube so if you want to do it start planning and thinking now. What do you want to blog about, research the current market, who are the best bloggers out there now? What do they do that attracts people to their vlog?
Start making your own videos using commentary to describe what they are doing. The biggest challenge for vloggers is commentating on the video while doing a task so start practising now if this is a career you’d consider for the future.
