Backing schools for a brighter tomorrow

COVID-19 has proven what many have known all along: schools are vital for the future of our country.

And right now, schools and their leadership teams are more important than ever as our country rebuilds. Which is why we’re offering schools wraparound COVID-19 support in addition to the two-year Leading Together programme starting in April 2021.

This additional wraparound support includes:

Leading Together programme

Leading Together is a free school improvement programme that builds and sustains strong leadership in schools facing the biggest challenges.

What makes it different?

The bespoke support it gives your entire senior leadership team. Over the two-year programme, we’ll help your school make sustained improvements – so you can create a culture where every teacher and pupil can thrive.

What are the benefits for my school?

• Develop your entire senior leadership team. • Intensive support for your school, tailored to

your needs.• Expert coaching and training.• Learn and implement evidence-based best practice. • Accelerate and sustain school improvement.

“The best part of engaging with the Leading Together programme has been watching my leadership team grow and watching leaders across the whole academy grow; and it certainly empowered them to make decisions that are going to have a big impact on children’s lives.”Tracey Greenough, Headteacher, Academy of St Francis of Assisi

What will it cost?

The programme is free of charge for schools.

How does the programme work?

TEAM AND INDIVIDUAL COACHING Your school is matched with an Achievement Partner – an experienced school leader. They’ll tailor the programme to your school’s context, which includes helping your team understand your school’s needs and supporting the planning and implementation of your chosen strategies. You'll have access to them before starting the core programme and in the summer term following.

The Achievement Partner acts as an objective pair of eyes for your leadership team. They’ll support your vision for the school while picking the right moments to constructively challenge you.

LEARNING MODULES Our evidence-based learning modules are focused on key aspects of school leadership and will help your leadership team grow and apply their knowledge and expertise. They’re delivered by your Achievement Partner and other Teach First experts through a combination of face-to-face and online activity, creating opportunities for learning that is both collaborative and self-paced. Module content will be followed by team coaching opportunities, particularly where the module content is related to a school priority.

BESPOKE SUPPORT Building on the learning module content and your school’s needs, the Achievement Partner will provide a range of bespoke support for you and your team. They’ll work with the senior leadership team to identify any additional expertise that can help the school progress, including resources and support from Teach First and our wider community. For example, we connect schools with pro bono business advisers and coaches, courtesy of our corporate supporters.

NETWORKING AND COLLABORATION The programme helps senior leadership teams create lasting support networks with other schools, both in their local community and across the country.

This includes collaborating with schools that have been on a similar journey, as well as other teaching schools, experts, the wider Teach First community (with over a thousand school leaders) and schools across the UK that demonstrate excellent practice. This all takes place during events, networking opportunities and other activities.

What’s the impact?

From the feedback we’ve received from previous programme members, we know that Leading Together has made a real difference to schools.

Is my school eligible?

Leading Together is about making a lasting difference to the lives of disadvantaged children. This is why we work with primary and secondary schools in areas of greatest need.

To take part, you need to be working at a school that is either a Teach First partner or eligible to be one. This means your school must be in England and teach a high number of pupils from a low-income background. We prioritise places for schools in Ofsted Category 3 or 4, or at risk of moving to these categories at their next inspection. Check our website for further details.

For the wraparound support and Leading Together, we’ll be working with schools in the following areas: West Midlands (primary and secondary), West Yorkshire (primary), Greater Manchester (secondary), and Nottingham and Derby (primary).

“Leading Together has improved our leadership capacity by improving the delegation of leadership across our leadership team, which means areas of the school are being led effectively and increasingly without my input as a head. I can focus on the vision and destination-setting, whilst leaders are getting on with impactful work in their areas of the school.” Ryan Lewis, Headteacher, Princeville Primary School

95%of programme members (senior school leaders) rated the programme as good or better – for headteachers, this was 100%.
