Possible changes during a piece include change in the accompaniment rhythm, instrumentation, dynamics, use of silence (the accompaniment could even tacet – remain silent – for a verse and allow the singing to continue a cappella), and recognition of the intercalated refrain ("Heigh-ho, the derry-o") and the ending. Like rhythmic ostinato (cyclic pattern), rhythmic accompaniment generally benefits by being similar to as well as different from the rhythms in the melody line. If you wish to involve the whole class at once, a semi-planned format can facilitate this.
