Enlighteneus 2015 was ‘ENLIGHTENING’ in literal

sense of the word! The speakers of the day were suc-

cessful SIMSR alumni from diverse sectors of IT indus-

try. The event started with an introduction of the

alumni by the comperes- Ayushi Juneja and Rishikesh

Dabholkar. The comperes also introduced Vidhya

Sharma madam and Kanika Minochha madam to the

alumni. Each alumnus had selected a different topic

to discuss. Interestingly, Rekha Rao madam shared

some experiences she had with the alumni, when

they were her students.

Mr. Rahul Joshi, an alumnus who is currently

working in the firm L&T as a senior manager, chose to

speak on ‘Why agility succeeds?’ It was an interactive

evolution of agile methodology and basic require-

ments for agility to succeed were discussed. He also

talked about ‘devops’- which is a technical acronym

for’ development and operations’.

The second speaker was Mr. Hariharan Anan-

tha Krishnan , who was also referred as ‘the success-

ful backbencher’ by Rekha Rao madam. He works

with Palladion networks as a senior consultant and

project manager. He spoke about ‘Information securi-

their certifications.

Mr. Sohin Shah elaborated the concept of

‘Internet of things’. He is a senior software engineer

with NESS technologies. He explained to the students

‘The wisdom pyramid’ which was a novel concept in

itself. Another speaker, Mr. Ravi Ved, who is a col-

league of Mr. Rahul Joshi discussed about ‘Big data’.

After this, the alumni responded to the various

doubts that students had about the current place-

ment scenario and how should they prepare them-

selves to secure their dream job placements amid cut

throat competition. The alumni very patiently, tended

to all the queries and told them about the different

fields of network operation, system testing, system

administration and software development.

Rekha Rao madam ended the discussion with

the beautiful lines - “Only machines can be perfect as

they are programmed” and “Never give more im-

portance to machine than oneself”. Kanika madam

then concluded by delivering a vote of thanks to eve-

ryone who made the event successful.

These were the words by our esteemed guest of hon-

or, Dr. David Caruso - a management psychologist

from Yale University, California. He develops and con-

ducts emotional intelligence training around the

world.

The 2nd Human Resource Conference on

‘Emotional Intelligence’ was organized on 22nd and

23rd January, 2015 by the HR department and sup-

ported by Humanist- The HR Club of SIMSR. The con-

veners were Prof. (Dr). Hemangi Bhalerao and Prof.

(Dr). Shailja Karve

On the first day, there was a conference on

Emotional Intelligence which was attended by digni-

taries from both corporate and academic domains.

The diverse audience from all corners of the world,

were enthralled by the interactive session conducted

by Dr. Caruso.

He emphasized that emotional information

plays a critical role in our working lives since the rela-

tionships we form are governed by rules of behavior

– of cooperation and dominance, among others –

that are triggered by our emotions. Being able to un-

derstand this information, and its impact on person-

nel and the organization, is what makes an individual,

at least in part, emotionally intelligent.

Next day we witnessed an enriching paper

presentation discussion by mavens from different

spheres including academics, corporate and defense

who shared their research on Emotional Intelligence

and its implications in an organization.

The participants discussed that the business

leaders who can embrace emotional side of an organ-

ization will infuse strength and meaning into manage-

ment structures and bring them to life. Also, people

high in EI(Emotional Intelligence) will build real social

fabric within an organization, and between an organi-

zation and those it serves, whereas those low in EI

may tend to create problems for the organization

through their individual behaviors

The panels were moderated by Prof. (Dr.)

Meenakshi Aggarwal Gupta, IIM Indore and Prof (Dr.)

Satishchandra Kumar, HOD Department of Psycholo-

gy, University of Mumbai.

Altogether the conference was a great success

and provided a platform for immense learning and

industry-academic interaction.
