1 Introduction
1.1 Purpose
This document provides an example of importing data from an IBM Cognos
Framework Manager Model to IBM Cognos Controller 8.3.
1.2 Applicability
This document is limited in focus to IBM Cognos Controller 8.3 and IBMCognos BI 8.3. Note, the source data in this example is from a data mart andFramework Manager Package produced from IBM Cognos Planning 8.3 for asingle time period.
1.3 Exclusions and Exceptions
This document is limited to functionality available in IBM Cognos Controller8.3 and IBM Cognos BI 8.3. Using this process with other versions of
Controller or Cognos BI may result in errors or unanticipated results.
2 An Overview of the Process
One method of importing data into IBM Cognos Controller 8.3 is to utilize IBMCognos BI 8.3 Framework Manager packages as a data source. The benefitsof this approach are improved integration between other IBM CognosFinancial Performance Management solutions such as IBM Cognos Planningand IBM Cognos BI. Framework Manager also includes pre-built connectorsto various third-party data sources such as SAP BW, Oracle, Teradata, andEssBase to name a few.
This document will provide an example of importing data from an IBMCognos Framework Manager Package by utilizing the following process flow:
It is beyond the scope of this document to discuss creating and publishing anIBM Cognos Framework Manager Package. This document will proceed fromthe point where a Framework Manager Package has been created against adata source and the Framework Manager Package has been published.

3 Creating a Report for Controller Import
1. After the IBM Cognos Framework Manager Model has been createdand the package published, you will need to log on to IBM Cognos 8
BI and create a List report from either Query Studio or Report Studio(any list report created in Query Studio must be re-opened in ReportStudio and saved as a Report Studio report, as Query Studio reportsare not consumable by Controller).
2. In the example report below, note that: PERIOD, COMPANY,ACCOUNT, EXTENDED DIMENSION 1, CURRENCY, ACTUALITY, andDATA have been included.
3. You have the ability to control the amount and type of data that willbe imported into Controller when you design the List reports. Byusing Filters, you can include only Budget actuality, for example, oryou can exclude Companies, Accounts, Currencies, etc. Anydimension that you have listed on the report can be filtered to providejust the kind of data that you would like to import into Controller.
