In 1989 the Korta family, guided by Francisco Korta, makes a change in its business and creates a new company, called Frutas de Curicó (Fruits of Curicó), which was oriented one hundred per cent towards the fruit producing area

In 1997, Korta embarked upon the most ambitious and challenging projects of their its trajectory; that is how Bodega y Viñedos Korta was born (Korta Wine Cellar and Vineyards)

Vineyards

The viticulture project of Santa Ana de Peteroa comprises a plantation covering an area of 200 ha. (Approximately 494 acres). The project is currently undergoing its third phase amounting to 88 hectares (217 acres) of planted vineyards. Cabernet sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Carmenere were planted

All the stock (grape plants) has been acquired from renowned nurseries in the area. The first plantations began in 1998. Between 1999 and the year 2000, a second stage was developed, increasing the number of hectares that were planted. During the last two seasons the area was increased incorporating two new varieties: Cabernet Franc and Carignan

The system for cultivating the plant uses a high trellis. It uses a fruit carrying wire (where the production cord is placed) and four mobile wires for foliage. This system acts as a guide for an orderly growth of plants in the vertical position

Vineyards

The plantation pattern that is used is 2.5 m between rows and 1.0 m between individual plants. The pruning method applied is a shoot covered cord for all the varieties, in the case of the Carmenère, which is pruned in shoots and strip (simple Guyot, without cutting the tips)

The whole plantation is under a drip irrigation system. The irrigation zones are determined according to the varieties and characteristics of the soil.

The irrigation periods are regulated in accordance to the vegetative growth, the moisture content of the soil, seasonal and other factors, and they fluctuate between 4 and 12 hours per week. The droppers used have a rate of 2 to 4 liters/hour

Cellar

The technological development of wine production probably reaches its highest point in our cellar

Conceived to store and preserve the whole organoleptic potential of the grapes, our cellar offers the most modern technology for the production and elaboration of fine wines. We have 2.5 million liters capacity

It has been wholly constructed using reinforced concrete panels that allows for the appropriate thermal insulation for the vinification and storage. The equipment and machinery used in the production of our wines are the most recent, and were installed with one final objective in mind: the high quality of our products
