Principal Report
With the Athletic carnival drawing near, the House Captains have spent a
lot of time during lunch times organising relay teams and practising for it.
I have been impressed with the emerging leadership skills that have been
evident. Mrs Green has also been busily preparing for this event and I’m
sure it will be a fun filled day. Parents, guardians and family members are
very welcome to come and watch their children participate in their
events. There will be a sausage sizzle available at lunch time.
Last Friday students from F-2 had their first French lesson with Kelda Ind
and Alex. They learnt to say hello and their name in French!
The Ride 2 School program has awarded PFCS a Gold school classifica-
tion for 2019. This is based on our level of engagement with the program
through collecting and submitting ‘HandsUp!’ counts of students riding to
school.
Carli Rooke, one of our instrumental teachers has kindly offered to run a
free music session during lunch times for those students who would like to
attend. Students will get the opportunity to have a play on some of the
instruments that we have. A huge vote of thanks to Carli for giving the stu-
dents this opportunity.
Ms Dorney is away at the moment, recovering from knee surgery, and her
replacement is Ms Harris who has been a regular volunteer and replace-
ment teacher for our school over the past 2 years. We wish Ms Dorney all
the best in her recovery and look forward to seeing her return to school.
On Monday night the Parents and Friends Association held their Annual
General Meeting. We had just over 30 parents nominate to be on this
committee which is amazing! A sincere thank you to all of those parents
for volunteering to be part of this group. The following parents were vot-
ed onto the leadership positions and I sincerely want to thank them for
their willingness to take on these roles:
President: Abbie Artis Vice President: Erin Deimos
Secretary: Cath Haldane Vice Secretary: Robbie Bishop
Treasurer: Bec Holt Vice Treasurer: Cathy Hammond
Finally, a reminder that the Folk Festival is only a few weeks away. Please
assist our P & F to fill spots on the roster as this is such a vital part of our
fundraising activities.
Please note these awards will be presented ON Friday’s assembly,
beginning at 2:55pm

We start both these subjects by saying and reading slides. The Maths slides
have been a review of past learning. It has include months of the year,
days of the week and counting. The brand new thing we are learning is our
times tables!
In Writing we have been writing Star of the Week Information Report and a
Recount.
The Foundations have settled in so well they look like "old" school kids now!
Next Friday is House Sports in Warrnambool. Students can wear their House
colours, don't forget to sign the consent on XUNO.
Grade 3 - 6 : This coming Friday the 3-6 team are looking forward to House Athletics at
Brauerander Park. We would like to thank Ms Green for all her preparation
and hard work that comes with organising such a big event. In Mathemat-
ics, students have been interpreting up to seven digit numbers and investi-
gating Place Value. In Reading, we have been finding the main idea within

An Update From Parents & Friends The 2020 Team Our Parents & Friends AGM was held on 10th February to wrap up an amazing 2019, and also to set our team in place for 2020. We again had strong nomination numbers, with 30 members signed up & all executive positions filled. Thank you to all the returning Association members & a particularly warm welcome to our 7 brand new members. 2019 Wrap Up 2019 was another successful year for Parents & Friends at PFCS. Our fundraising efforts totalled $40,306.72!!!! On behalf of the entire 2019 team we wish to acknowledge the contributions & support we received from School Council, the PFCS staff, the students and the wider school com-munity. We thank everybody who contributed in any way, and especially the 2019 team for their tireless efforts. 2020 - Let’s Do This! The new 2020 team has set our events calendar in place and we are super excited about the op-portunities ahead! We have listened to the feedback from previous years & are attacking 2020 with new enthusiasm and a new & improved plan! There are plenty of ways for families to be in-volved in life at PFCS and we look forward to maximising those opportunities. Remember - you do not need to be a member to come along to our meetings - everybody is wel-come! Folkie 2020 - 3 Weeks To Go! As Folkie weekend is nearly upon us we are particularly looking for people to help out by volun-teering for a spot on the roster - there are over 60 spots to fill so please help out if you can. We are hoping to beat last year’s Folkie Fundraising efforts, which were just over $16,000! See the Folkie Fundraising section of the newsletter for more details. Twilight Market - June 2020 The organisers of the Twilight Market are currently looking for some new people to join their team. This event is an amazing showcase of everything that is wonderful & unique about our school, and as an added bonus it raises some serious funds! There are various roles available on the team, both creative & practical. If this sounds like something you’d like to be involved with, please pop into the office or chat to Brooke Griffiths or Nick Grimmer. P&F are looking forward to another great year in which we all work together to make connec-tions, look after each other, promote & enrich our school!
FOLKIE FUNDRAISERS 2020
B&B + Rent A Tent
Each year during the Port Fairy Folk Festival our school offers Bed & Breakfast and Rent-A-Tent accommodation
to visitors. It is a cost-effective accommodation option for Folk Festival attendees with up to 150 people staying
in our classrooms & on our school grounds.
THIS IS OUR BIGGEST FUNDRAISER FOR THE YEAR. Last year our Folkie Fundraising efforts raised over $16,000
for our school! One of the key components to making this weekend a success is the parents, friends & family
members who volunteer their time before, during and after the event.
There are a variety of tasks that the Working Groups need assistance with and we have tried to keep the shifts
short. We know it’s a busy time for everyone in Port Fairy, but if you, a family member, or friend can spare a
few hours it would be greatly appreciated & will make a massive difference to the funds we raise.
We currently have a range of shift we still need to fill:
Pre-Folkie Week - Cleaning Duties
Wed 4th March - Set Up
Fri 6th March - Set Up + Car Parking Assistants
Sat / Sun / Mon - Breakfast & Reception Shifts
Mon - Pack Up
Either put your name down in the office, or comment on our post on the parents Facebook page and we will add
you to the roster. There are over 60 spots to fill so we would love all the help we can get. Please note, you may
be asked to privately provide your phone number as some shifts may require someone to be contactable.
Many thanks for your help,
The Folkie B&B & Rent A Tent Working Groups
We have put a roster out for Term One at the school office.
We need at least two helpers each Friday.
The more the merrier! The more people there is the quicker and easy it is!
We ask that parents that are volunteering to sign in at the school office and if they have
a working with children card to present it.
It is set up in the Rise Room.
Friday 21th Feb Andrew Emily Zofia
SECOND HAND UNIFORM SHOP
Open dates/times for Term 1 :
Thursday 20th Feb 3:15-3:45pm Friday 28th Feb 3:30-4pm
Monday 16th March 9-9:30am Friday 27th March 2:30-3pm
REMINDER SCHOOL OFFICE REQUIREMENTS : Volunteers at the school need to sign in but most importantly also sign out so that we
know when you have left the school grounds. It is important as the sign in and out book is
used for any emergencies and in such an event it is vital that we now who is on the
premises.
Also remember that the school must have a copy of your working with children check
before you work in a classroom with students.
FRENCH LESSONS
My name is Alexia Lopez and I am from the south of France (near Perpignan, at the border of Spain).
While I mainly work at Warrnambool College, I am also going to be a French Assistant here at Port Fairy
Consolidated School every Friday this year.
I studied Communication (BA), English (BA), as well as French Arts, Letters, and Literature (Master’s
degree), and graduated in July 2019. I am now excited to explore the world of teaching in Australia as
translation and other cultures greatly interest me. Working here is a fantastic opportunity for me – it ena-
bles me to learn about the Australian culture and to perfect my English.
Above all, I hope that I can use what I have learned to inspire your children to take greater interest in the
French language and culture. Working hand in hand with Kelda Ind, I will set up activities to get them
started on their French journey and hopefully, in the end, have them love another country as much as I do.
