This year's Chapel theme is:

peace.

John 14:27: "[Jesus said,] Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid." We will spend time con-templating how the Gospel of Christ brings about the "peace of God, which transcends all under-standing."

Chapel services for the school are held every Tuesday morning at 9:27 a.m. in First English Lutheran church, located behind the school campus. Parents and grandparents are welcome to join us for worship.

Chapel NewsWe do collect an offering each week that supports various minis-tries and charities. This quarter we are supporting Crossing Cambodia, a mission that serves street kids in Battambang, Cambodia. It is not mandatory for the students to bring an offering, but it is a good way to teach them that we all have a re-sponsibility to be stewards of God's gifts, and to help and be there for others.

MS. LOUGHMILLER’S 3rd ANNUAL PI(E) DAY CELEBRATION! On Monday, March 14th (Pi Day 3.14) Ms. Lough-miller’s math classes and a few other pie hungry students spent the day baking pies! A special thanks to First English Lutheran

Church for the use of their kitchen and meeting room. In total more than 25 pies were made! Flavors included – ap-ple, blueberry, pecan, peach, and sweet potato. Several groups also chose to try their hand at a cream pie – chocolate, straw-

berry, cookies and cream, or turtle. Students were in charge of both the crust and the filling! They either had to roll out a traditional pie crust or had to make a graham cracker crust! Apple slicing proved to be the most labor intensive job but everyone agreed the hard work was worth it! Every student got to enjoy a piece of pie at the end-of-day pie eating period! Yum!

GEMS (Girls Excited about Math and Science) DAY AT THE STENNIS SPACE CENTER

On Thursday, March 17th Ms. Loughmiller traveled with 13 young ladies from LHS to the Stennis Space Center in Mis-sissippi. This is the third year Lutheran High has participated in the event. Rain threatened this year’s outing so a few activities were modified, but the day was still enjoyed by all. Four sessions were led by professional women to help prepare today’s teenage girl for the challenges she will face in college and in the work force. The sessions focused on the following – (1) speed mentoring where a panel of women from various space center departments shared their college experiences and their work expe-riences, (2) a session on what your social media profile says about you – be careful what you say and be selective with the pictures you post, (3) a math and science prob-lem worked on as a team, and (4) dress for success – pro-

fessional women of all shapes, sizes and ethnicities modeled appropriate work place attire (and stressed the strategy of buying separates so that you could mix and match your out-fits).

All sessions ended with audience questions but as always, the last session of the day was the most popular! LHS students who partic-ipated were: Hannah Cassanova, Jasmine Drew, Renni Kieschnick, Nialejia Nunnery, Bryanna Parise, Sarah Rogers, Rael Shaw, Madelyn

Sosa, Megan Stewart, Courtney Strickland, Gia Veau-Neely, Jalen Washington and Nija Williams.

Summer Opportunity

On Saturday, April 16th St. John Lutheran School is hosting their annual Blackboards and Blue Jeans auction. Monies from this event are used for technology and educational materials that benefit their students. Ms. Loughmiller who is a member of the St. John School Board is looking for student volunteers to help with this event. Students will work in pairs and serve “tastes” of some well-known dishes provided by local New Orleans restaurants. Students interested in this event must be committed to serving.

The success of any auction is impacted by the volunteers. LHS students should arrive at St. John (3937 Canal St, New Orleans, LA) by 5:30 p.m. or arrive at Lutheran High by 5:00 p.m. Ms. Loughmiller will be taking tickets the night of the auction and is willing to transport students from Lu-theran High. Students should finish by 10:00 p.m. The

St. John Auction Committee will provide food for the students. Ms. Loughmiller ideally would like 20 volun-teers. Please see Ms. Loughmiller to sign-up. This is a great opportunity for us to give back to St. John. Pastor Babin frequently leads chapel at LHS and they annually

allow the LHS Mission Team to spon-sor a booth at their Endymion Family Fest.

The dress for the evening is a white shirt with black pants or nice blue jeans (i.e. no tears, holes, rips or frays and preferably a dark color). Comfortable shoes should be worn (nice tennis shoes are allowed). Fliers

with more information and a map will be provided to students who are interested. Parents/guardians with questions should contact Ms. Loughmiller at ([email protected]). Students volunteer-ing at this event will earn service hours.

Senior Baby Photos Needed The end of the year is fast approach-ing and will be here before we know it. It is an LHS tradition to compile a senior video/power point that is shown during several end-of-year events - Senior Chapel (May 3rd), Baccalaureate (May 11th) and then shown again as people are arriving for graduation (May 13th). This presentation includes photos from your child's year(s) at LHS but it is also fun to include photos from their childhood.

We ask that each senior bring in three (3) photos for the video/power point.

In the past the photos have typically been baby photos through early el-ementary school. If you have your child's photos saved digitally, please e-mail them to Ms. Loughmiller at [email protected]. If you have hard copies only, we will scan them and return the prints to you. Please e-mail Ms. Loughmiller if you

have any questions. We would like to have all photos turned in by – Monday, April 18th.

A letter will be mailed to all senior parents by Friday of this week with information about important dates between now and graduation.
