Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial is an exciting release for many users who prefer to

use LTS version, it has new application packages and features. Canonical

is trying to improve Ubuntu by time and seems they are succeeding,

unlike previous releases this release got some new features andimprovements which I had shared in previous post. Unity 8 with Mir is

not replaced yet but it will be available fortesting in 16.04 Xenial, Unity

7.4 is much improved, faster, responsive and many other things for

release info checkout this post. It's been a tradition now that whenever

a new Ubuntu version come out users look forward to tweak it or

smooth some rough edges and somehow to make their experience much

better with Ubuntu, I am not trying to say Ubuntu isn't perfect 'for sure

it is' but a user like me may need some other things to be done after a

fresh install and make it much better than any other OS available out

there. Everything shared below is tested and works ne, so hopefully

you won't get any problem with them and if you encounter any problem

feel free to ask. Lets start .....

Go to Dash and Search "CCSM" > Then go to Unity plugin > Tick

'Minimize Single Window Applications' feature

This time recursive search is disabled by default in Ubuntu. If you like

that feature you can enable/disable with simple two commands.

LIM (Locally Integrated Menus)

Local Integrated Menus display on the Title bar of any un-maximized

Window. By default it is disabled, if you like it you can enable it easily. Go

to System Settings > Appearance > Behavior > under 'Show the menus

for a window' > select "In the window's title bar"

piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition

and image authoring.

Ubuntu has Facebook, Google, Twitter, Yahoo, Hotmail and other

accounts support. It offers you different features of your online account

within Ubuntu desktop. Go to Settings> Online Accountsand congure

accounts.

There are some Restricted extras available in Ubuntu repositories

which can't be install while installation but you can install these

Restricted extras by yourself. Restricted extras contains: mp3 playbackand decoding, support for various formats, fonts, java, ash plugin, lame,

dvd playback.

If you are multimedia user and use Ubuntu for multimedia then these

codecs are very useful for you. You can install them by single command.

Now text le will open, In the last line you will see "enabled=1" change it

to "enabled=0". Save and close le.

Now enter following command in terminal to stop apport service:

If something went wrong you can reset Unity desktop with following

commands.

Ubuntu-Tweak, sadly, has been "officially"

abandoned/discontinued by the programmer.

BUT ... 1. it is still in the getdeb.net ppa/repo

AND the .deb and source code is still available

on various web sites.

Even though it's discontinued, all functions

EXCEPT the programmers own ppa [so theapplications] section work [so all the tweaks

work] and since it is open source, there's nothing

stopping some skilled programmer[s] from

reviving it!

ask you something then you have to use Taband

Enterkeys.

a window asking if wishing to install flash

and other for .mp3 etc. :)

The DVD instructions are wrong for 16.04, you no longer

need to run the install script, in fact, it's not even there.

libdvd-pkg installs it for you automatically now.

enable that repo in software sources then you will

get it.
