What’s working…Theme

Character education skits each month Each trait is given a theme-based motto (“Don’t

clown(fish) around…be industrious!!”; “Be honest—don’t sidestep the truth!”)

T-shirts—staff wears shirts on first Monday of each month Shows staff unity

All-school celebration—planned based on the theme Surf board snack, relay race, craft

Reward system Tiki tickets presented to students

More what’s working…Rewards

Free-and-frequent—Tiki tickets Awarded in language of the matrix Two-part tickets—students keep one to be use in Tiki store;

other is used for weekly and schoolwide recognition Class recognition

Classes keep track of total Tiki tickets—plan an incentive when 200 tickets are earned

PE, Music, and Art teachers choose a class from each group for special recognition each week

All-school celebrations When 4000 tickets are earned, an all-school celebration is

planned
