Transcript of Impact of Computer Games
Computer games were first introduced in the 1970's. By the end of the decade, they had become a preferred childhood leisure activity, and adults responded with concern about the possible ill effects of the games on children.
Computer games market was decreased in the early 1980s.
Nintendo was released in 1986, then computer games became very popular.
The addiction has been defined as a primary, chronic disease, characterized by impaired control over the use of a psychoactive substance and/or behavior.
Most of non-school hours are spent on playing computer games
Falling asleep in school Worsening grades Choosing to play computer games, rather
than see friends Dropping out of other social groups Irritable when not playing a video game
In South Korea, Lee Seung Seop died after playing Starcraft for over 50 hours
In china, Xu Yan died after playing online games for over 15 days during the New Year holiday
Playing for increasing amounts of time Thinking about gaming during other
activities Gaming to escape from real-life problems,
anxiety, or depression Lying to friends and family to conceal
gaming Feeling irritable when trying to cut down on
gaming
Ask professional help if they notice the warning signs
video game addicts can't avoid computers, they have to learn to use them responsibly without gaming.
The key is to show gamers they are powerless over their addiction, and then teach them how real life is more exciting than life in computer games.
