Pertenecemos a Dios

a Dios y a nuestro país. P. Joachim Lepcha

We belong to God

One day an admirer of Mahatma Gandhi said, “Well, I bow down before Gandhi, but I kneel down only before Christ.” We all know that worship is due to God and that is why we come every week to the Sunday Mass .Good Christians, make good citizens. We are citizens of two worlds. We have to fulfill duties to both, Society and God. “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and give to God what is God’s.” (Mt. 22:21) We have got an obligation to God and to our country. If it conflicts, we must resolve it by remaining faithful to God. As a coin bears the image of Caesar belongs to Caesar, so the human person created in the image of God belongs to God, our whole entire being, belongs to Him, therefore, He has the first claim over us before we give our allegiance to anything earthly. “apart from all is nothing” (Is. 45:6) God is the source of good. Saint Paul praised the converts Thessalonians for their fidelity to God and Christ, for their practice of theological virtues of faith, hope and charity. We are obliged to pay taxes, obey the just law, work for the welfare of all citizens; when we do so, we fulfill the duties to society by bringing peace, harmony, and livable communities, states, and country. We must obey civil authorities, respect the justice of our country in order to live in peace and unity. We have the right to vote in this coming election; and yes, this right fortunately is without any pressure or by force. If we choose to vote, we should be praying and reflecting on the polices and issues that matters immensely to our future, our moral values, our religious practice, prosperity of our nation, peace, unity, harmony, and promoting the welfare of all its citizens without violating God’s law. This Gospel passage invites us to give ourselves 100% to God, not only 10% as a Sunday obligation. “Give to God what is God’s.” (Mt. 22:15-21) We are blessed to have wonderful parishioners who are totally committed to God in many ways; they are willing to share their fruits by participating in the “Together in Mission” and “Call to Renew” Campaigns and offering their time and talents as well as supporting our parish financially in this pandemic. They give 100% of themselves. I have seen the sharing of those fruits by the increase of our online giving, and those who financially support our livestream Mass. We could not bring the Gospel to those unable to join us in person without your prayerful and financial support. And today, we celebrate World Mission Sunday. Next, we will be ready to support the universal suffering Church for evangelization and our own Immaculate Conception school, for we must not forget the education of our children, they are the future. I admire your dynamic action and praise you with Saint Paul, saying, “We thank God, for you have shown your faith in action and worked for love.” (1 Thess. 1:3) Our dedicated parishioners express their gratitude to God every day, giving back to Him all they have received from Him without measure; they know that God is the giver of all gifts and it is our duty to give back to God what belongs to God. During this difficult time our parish is surviving and somehow going forward with financial ups and downs. I know God is with us and we will make it through all the challenges with His mighty hands. I am grateful and thankful to all who actively participate on weekdays and weekend Masses and who are always there to dedicate their time and talents for the greater glory of God. Thank you very much!

“In the Catholic Tradition, responsible citizenship is a virtue, and participation in political life is a moral obligation. . . The obligation to participate in political life is rooted in our baptismal commitment to follow Jesus Christ and to bear Christian witness in all we do." -- Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, No. 13

CHURCH NEWS WEEKEND & DAILY MASSES

Here at Immaculate Conception Parish we are striving daily to meet the needs of our parishioners, to use the guidelines given to us in a way that will benefit all. We will continue to work hard to maintain a clean, sanitized area for worship, to abide by the Contact tracing rules in an effort to protect all who attend Mass. We ask that you help us follow these simple guidelines even if they are an annoyance to you, think of your ‘brother’ first. Please always check our updated website for news about our Masses and to stay informed. Use our Flocknote to reserve your spot as we do offer 150 chairs all socially distanced. If it is full, please choose another Mass time. We ask you not to attend Mass if you are ill; to wear your mask at all times and to respect the guidelines in place. Our daily Mass Schedule will change effective November 7th, 2020 as it is getting darker and chilly. Monday – Friday will move to 8:00AM English and 5:30PM Spanish respectively Saturday our Vigil Mass for the Most vulnerable in our community will return to 5:30PM English Sundays 8:00AM English; 12 noon Spanish and 5:00PM Spanish. English 10AM livestream

NOVEMBER 2, 2020 NEWS Our annual Bi-lingual Mass of Remembrance will take place outdoors on Monday November 2, at 6:00PM. This special Liturgy will be a remembrance of all those who died during October 2019 and September 2020 and have had a Mass of Christian Burial here at Immaculate Conception. An invitation has been sent out to the families of the deceased, two family members will be part of the candle lighting ceremony and will bring an 8 x 10 framed picture of their loved one to the Mass. As part of this Liturgy we will have a candle lighting remembrance which will be a little different this year—no procession, but your loved one will be announced. Of course, all are welcomed to attend the Liturgy for all the souls in purgatory and the consolation of those who are grieving.

THE PONTIFICIAL MISSION AID SOCIETIES

In the Archdiocese of Los Angeles

I know that many of our parishioners are struggling financially, and that economic reality, combined with the inability to celebrate Masses in our usual fashion, is impacting our own parish budgets. Asking our parishioners to give their limited resources to another cause, when we are struggling to make the ends meet, is extremely challenging. But this is our opportunity to say to the lord, "Here I am , send me.” I encourage you to join us in this once a year commitment in support of priests ,religious ,and lay pastoral leaders in more than 1,111 mission dioceses all throughout the world. We will celebrate WORLD MISSION SUNDAY this weekend October 17-18! For more information visit there website:www.missionsla.org

STEM Academy NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY

2020-2021

SCHOOL STUDENT NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY

The school, mindful of its mission to be a witness to the love of Christ for all, admits students regardless of race, color, national origin, and/or ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, disability, medical condition, sex, or national and/or ethnic origin in the administration of educational policies and practices, scholarship programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs, although certain athletic leagues and other programs may limit participation and some archdiocesan schools operate as single-sex schools. While the school does not discriminate against students with special needs, a full range of services may not always be available to them. Decisions concerning the admission and continued enrollment of a student in the school are based upon the student's emotional, academic, and physical abilities and the resources available to the school in meeting the student's needs.

DID YOU KNOW? How sex offenders can mislead ? The concept of a “sex offender” can

seem abstract, as if it is removed from your family and your life. But in reality, sex offenders can be anyone: neighbors, relatives, teachers, friends. Sadly, the sex offender’s skills in deception often hide this reality from us. Predators count on disbelief to hide in plain sight, often in positions that allow them to choose and groom their victims. It is no accident when we read headlines where people in positions of trust and power are arrested for sex offenses. It is critical to let go of disbelief and arm ourselves with information to protect our children. For more information, visit https://lacatholics.org/did-you-know/.

KEEP SUPPORTING THE CHURCH DURING COVID-19
