SPECIAL PRAYERS ORACIONES ESPECIALES

When a person says to another: I really love you, it means with an authentic love, with all the consequences, until the end. And if he is a coherent Christian, this means: I love you with that strength that gives me not only my poor nature but the whole work of Christ, to whom I am united with the whole family of God. And so Christians - this is the background of the third encycli-cal of Benedict XVI - contribute to the development of people and of peoples. As Edith Stein pointed out and certified it with the surren-der of her life, in Christianity truth and charity are inseparable and mutually demanded. The encyclical Caritas in veritate - “on inte-gral human development in charity and in truth” - is situated in continuity with the previous two. If the first encyclical stated “to live the love” as a result of the Christian faith, and the second “to learn again the hope” for each one and the others, it contempla-tes a central aspect of love: its relation with the truth. “Live charity in the truth” (No. 4). The truth of charity is its origin -from God the Father, through the Son in the Holy Spirit-, its creative and redemp-tive character, and its capacity to make Christians subjects who live it spreading throughout the world its liberating force, as a core of the transformation and development of people and cultures. That Christian love (charity) is the main force of develop-ment, is corroborated by the fact that it is a fruit of hope, which leads to work in this world for justice and peace; for Christian hope, as the second encyclical affirmed, is not - it must never be - indivi-dualistic. The caritas in veritate shows well that whoever does not compromise in justice and peace does not love well, does not love enough, “does not really love”.

REFLECTION

Cuando una persona le dice a otra: te amo de verdad, quiere decir con un amor auténtico, con todas las consecuencias, hasta el final. Y si es un cristiano coherente, esto significa: te amo con aque-lla fuerza que me da no sólo mi pobre naturaleza sino la obra entera de Cristo, a quien estoy unido con toda la familia de Dios. Y así los cristianos –es el trasfondo de la tercera encíclica de Benedicto XVI– contribuimos al desarrollo de las personas y de los pueblos. Como señalaba Edith Stein y lo certificó con la entrega de su vida, en el cristianismo la verdad y caridad son inseparables y se exigen mu-

tuamente.

La encíclica Caritas in veritate –“sobre el desarrollo humano integral en la caridad y en la verdad”– se sitúa en continuidad con las dos ante-riores. Si la primera encíclica planteaba “vivir el amor” como fruto de la fe cristiana, y la segunda “aprender de nuevo la esperanza” para cada uno y los demás, ésta contempla un aspecto central del amor: su relación con la verdad. “Vivir la caridad en la verdad” (n. 4). La verdad de la caridad es su origen –de Dios Padre, por el Hijo en el Espíritu Santo–, su carácter creador y redentor, y su capaci-dad de hacer a los cristianos sujetos que la viven extendiendo por el mundo su fuerza liberadora, co-mo núcleo de la transformación y el desarrollo de las personas y de las culturas.

Que el amor cristiano (la caridad) es fuerza principal del desarrollo, lo corrobora el hecho de que es un fruto de la esperanza, que lleva a trabajar en este mundo por la justicia y la paz; pues la esperanza cristiana, como afirmaba la segunda encíclica, no es –nunca debe ser– individualista. La caritas in veritate muestra bien que quien no se compromete en la justicia y la paz no ama bien, no ama suficientemente, “no ama de verdad”.

Bible Summer Class for Children & Youth-Clase Bíblica

de Verano para Niños y Jóvenes

Parents are invited to register their children for Bible classes in

the summer. The registrations will be open all the month of June

and the first week of July of the present year. Last year, 90 chil-

dren and 40 young people participated. We hope this year will

increase attendance.
