— Dynamic Pile Testing

Product News

We have been asked several times during the past months if it isreally necessary to move hundreds of tons of concrete blocks to the site for making the required static load test of foundation piles and the answer is NO!

Pile Dynamics offers its PileDriving Analyzer® to perform dy-namic pile tests which uses the wave propagation theory to com-pute numerous variables that fully describe the condition of the ham-mer-pile-soil system in real time.

The method was originally deve-loped for driven piles but is also applied to all sorts of bored piles (Kelly, CFA, SDA) by impacting the pile with a large drop weight (ap-prox. 2% of the required test load) and measuring the compressive stress wave travelling down the pile. Transducers and a pair of ac-celerometers attached near the top of the pile measure the wave reflec-tions and transfer the signals to the Pile Driving Analyzer (the photo right shows the model PAK on site) to process the output results.

The new PDA-W software estimates the pile resistance distribution and tension envelope in the field which

easier the E+S linear shoring can be used close to existing buildings and structures without any nega-tive effect such as vibrations or soil settlement. As the frame can be moved up and down within the rails, the excavator has always clear sight to his work area resulting in better excavation performance and increased safety

for workers in the trench. The extremly strong design of the linear shoring provides a maximum clear head room of up to 3300 mm without ground support and a stan-dard trench width of 7000 mm.

spindles are mounted and 4 (6) shoring plates which are sled into the guides of the sliderail frame and independently lowered and lifted by the excavator. The advantage is that only smaller weights (~1000 kg) have to be ma-nipulated and that one plate alone has less soil friction compared to a complete trenchbox.

For very deep and wide trenches as well as for large diameter and long pipes E+S introduced their LINEAR shoring system which gained large popularity on extremely demanding projects all over the world. When trenchboxes or sliderail ele-ments are lowered or lifted the trench becomes wider or narrower a few centimeters with each move which makes it necessary that the shoring system always has to compress the soil. The E+S linear shoring avoids this problem by using a rigid frame with rollers so that plates, rails and struts are al-ways in a right angle and the trench width does not change with each move of the shoring system.Besides the fact that installing and extracting the shoring is much

For trench depths up to 6 m we will continue to offer the widely used trench boxes and slide rail elements from Krings, but for very large trenches in depth and width we now have the possibility to serve our clients with the E+S LINEAR shorings.

In addition E+S manufactures a complete line of small hydraulically operated and fully guided auger boring machines in the diameter range from DN 200 to DN 800.

Trenchboxes are the most popu-lar trench shoring equipment for depths up to 4 m worldwide. No other shoring system combines ease of use, excellent performance and guaranteed safety in the same way.Only one hydraulic excavator with operator and two men are required to place the equipment, excavate and shore the trench using the lo-wer-and-cut method and, in many cases, do also the backfilling and extracting of the trenchboxes. The most used type is our KS100 with 3500 mm length and 2400 or 2600 mm height plus a 1300 mm high extension box. The bottom spindle provides a clear head room of 1500 mm, sufficient for all cable ducts, water pipes and also for me-dium size drainage pipes.

Our sliderail shoring elements are for trenches up to 6000 mm depth and pipes or culverts where a headroom of up to 2000 mm below the bottom spindle is required. While the trenchboxes are handled and installed as one complete unit (2 boxplates and 4 spindles), the element shoring system consists of 2 sliderail frames to which the

The E+S auger boring system con-sists of base frame, hydraulic au-ger boring unit, discharge augers, boring heads for soft and hard soil, pilot pipes, control head, hydraulic power pack and monitoring sys-tem.

It is the ideal equipment for placing steel casings or product pipes of DN200 to DN800 in all soil condi-tions without flowing ground water, even in hard rock. The special de-signed boring heads can be accura-tely controlled in line and grade by a theodolite and TV camera system and the spoil is transported to the launching bit by an auger removal system.

The E+S auger boring system of-fers many advantages:• accurate bores• significantly less expensive than microtunnelling• easy and quick setup• useable in all soil conditions without groundwater, even in hard rock with DTH hammer• maximum O.D. 1620 mm• maximum torque 73 kNm• maximum thrust 3434 kN

Our selfpriming, vacuum assisted centrifugal pumps can be prepared for the brackish and very aggressive groundwater found in many Middle East countries. The most common pump type SWELL 6“VACs offers following outstanding features:

• vacuum pump capacity 140 m3/h • water capacity max. 350 m3/h• delivery head max. 26 m• SUN diesel engine 27 kW• electric starter• 2-wheel site trailer• integrated fuel tank• lifting hook, resting foot• bronze impeller• stainless steel shafts

Our line of dewatering pumpscovers standard selfpriming and vacuum assisted pumps from 2 to 10 inch with diesel and electric motors for all kinds of temporary groundwater problems and also the necessary wellpoint accessories such as filters, header pipes, val-ves, elbows, etc.

— Drum Cutters

In some Middle East areas i.e. Doha, Manama and Riyadh trench shoring is not required at all because the soil is hard and the rock needs to be broken by hydraulic rock brea-kers which is not only very slow but also noisy and quite damaging to

the excavators. Why don‘t you try our hydraulic rock cutters which are mounted to the excavator boom in-stead of the bucket? We have drum cutters for all kinds of base machi-nes in longitudinal and transvers version for base machines with an operating weight from 2-120 tons and 18-250 kW.

The photo below shows our hydrau-lic vibrator type APE150 working since several months in Bahrain to drive ~35.000 m2 of sheet piles of different lengths at a new housing development project.APE manufactures hydraulic vibra-tors with a centrifugal force from 150 to 4820 kN for driving and extracting plastic sheet piles, heavy steel sheet piles, H-beams and steel casings. If higher forces are needed APE combines its larger vibrators to twin and even quad units with a power pack capacity of up to 4 x 738 kW for driving casings of up to 12 m diameter and 550 ton weight. Interested? Just give us a call!

The new foundation rig from IMT type AF80C is the ideal machine for all medium size projects wherepiles up to 1500 mm diameter and up to 60 m depth have to be made. The rig is built on a Caterpil-lar CAT325C HP base with 187 kW diesel engine, telescopic lower and interlocking kelly bar to work in all soil conditions, even in hard rock.

IMT manufactures a wide range of drill rigs with rotary torque from 81 to 345 kNm and interlocking kellys up to 90 m drilling depth. The ma-chines can also be equipped with arrangements for continuous flight augers, soil displacement augers, double drill heads, soil mixing, hydraulic vibrators, hydraulic and diesel impact hammers.
