IMAGINE!Redesigning Professional Learning
Our Big Idea
Just us. Together. Thinking. Learning. Connecting.
Doing things differently is risky
We harvested a lot of great ideas…
But some things didn’t fit
Talking isn’t enough
We want….
Action
And we want
For us and our schools
But we know we’re on the right track
Just us. Together. Thinking. Learning. Connecting.
Let’s keep imagining together.
Imagine possibilities…
What about this?
In October (after the dust of September has settled)
In the morning
At eight “family” sites
Our Families• Ladysmith Secondary and feeder schools• Cedar Secondary and feeder schools• John Barsby and feeder schools• NDSS and feeder schools• Woodlands and feeder schools• Wellington and feeder schools• Dover and feeder schools• Learning Alternatives
And a possible ninth site open for cross-district specialists.
What could we do?
Imagine!
We work together custom design the morning at each site to fit needs.
And Build on our Big Themes• Using Technology• Meeting Diverse Needs• Building Community• Assessment• Engagement• Professional Learning Communities• Inquiry• Strategies that Work
To create what we imagine.
For example…
Building Community
Grow the connections between schools to enhance transition: mentorship, “buddies,” cross-school events, creating information channels, parent evenings.
Using Technology
Work together to learn and to use technology (blogs, wiki, skype), share classroom applications and create ways to digitally connect.
Inquiry
Learn together and share knowledge to develop inquiry questions and strategies that work in our curriculum.
Assessment
Grade group meetings across schools to discuss assessment (imagine if everyone brought in student samples).
Add the Cool Factor
Connect through technology in real time with all sites.
Fill up Virtual Resource Rooms in a Learning Hub that educators across the district can all access.
Contribute to professional discussion on our Working Together Moodle.
But what’s most important…
Just us. Together. Thinking. Learning. Connecting.
Let’s begin planning together
We need to find time to work together
Because we’re too busy to do it alone
And we don’t have time to keep reinventing the wheel
And because
None of us is as smart as all of us.Kenneth Blanchard
