Scholarship Requirements

Scholarship Requirements

A completed application packet for each scholarship for which you are applying must be handed to Mrs.Rabel by 2:30 on Wednesday, February 7, 2018. Each packet must include the completed application form, resume, references, labeled essay, recommendation letter, acceptance letter, and appropriate addendum forms.

Paper clip each packet and attach a post it note stating the name of each scholarship to each packet.

One complete packet with a signed cover sheet is due to Mrs. Rabel in the guidance office by Wednesday, February 7, 2018 by 2:30 pm.

The COMPLETE APPLICATION must include the signed completed cover sheet, the completed application form, the resume, references, labeled essays (All of those you handed in individually), recommendation letter, school/college acceptance letter and appropriate addendum forms.

Selection will be made by mid to late March 2018 by the appropriate scholarship committees.* * *

Samuel Agolino Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a deserving, successful Wyoming Area graduating senior who took their educational opportunities seriously and plans to attend a 2 or 4 year trade, technical college/university. The Agolino family are looking for a senior who is willing to help those in time of need, one who is generous, knows the difference between right and wrong and can laugh from time to time.

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words tell us: Why is it important to you to receive this scholarship? Who is your role model and why? Explain what your college expectations are and what you will major in? What is the rule that guides your life and explain why?

Anthony and Eleanor Angeli Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who is a resident of West Pittston and has been accepted to a 4 year college or university.

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words indicate your ambitions, intentions and reason for applying for this scholarship.

Maureen McHugh Aritz Women’s Business Memorial Scholarship

Applicants for this scholarship must be female, graduating Wyoming Area seniors, who have an interest in studying some aspect of business and who have been accepted to a 4 year college or university.

 Essay Required: Each applicant must submit a solid essay of at least 500 words telling why you deserve this award. In this essay tell us about any unique community involvement, business experiences and how you see yourself possessing traits/qualities very similar to Maureen.

Richard G. Belza Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area Graduating senior who has been accepted to a trade, technical school, a community college or a 2 or 4 year college or university. Preference will be given to those who will be studying law enforcement, criminal justice or a related area. Other majors may be considered.

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words tell us why you feel you deserve this award. In your essay tell us about how you may have helped a younger person and how you made a difference in their life. Be as specific as you want and include multiple examples, if available. Also, please mention briefly what subject of higher learning you are going to pursue and why. Good Luck!

Big Top Rental Scholarship

Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior who possesses the following criteria: academic success, financial need and school, community involvement and has been accepted to a trade, technical, 2 or 4 year college/university. Preference will be given to those applicants who have held a part time job during high school and have also participated in school activities. Community service will also be considered when making the final selection.

Essay Required: in a solid essay of at least 500 words tell the selection committee why you feel you should receive this award. What circumstances in your life do you feel make you a strong candidate for this scholarship?

John Jude Bolin Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who is a well-rounded student with community involvement and proven academic success and has been accepted to a 2 or 4 year college or university. Preference will be given to an active volunteer as an EMS, fire fighter or a member of the ambulance crew of his/her community. Since John dedicated so much of his time to his community, church and our school district, special ATTENTION will be given to applicant’s ACTIVE COMMUNITY SERVICE and it will be closely looked at during the selection process. Be sure to note your service in your essay and resume. Complete the “John Jude Bolin Memorial Scholarship Page” to verify your membership as a volunteer at the organizations listed if it applies to you.

Essay required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words, tell the selection committee tell us how your community service has impacted/influenced your life. Also include why you should receive the John Jude Bolin Memorial Scholarship.

Christie Bonnice State Farm Insurance Scholarship

Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior who has been accepted to a 4 year college/university. This individual must have displayed academic success and community service. Essay required: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” ~ Margaret MeadIn a solid essay of at least 500 words discuss: How do you contribute to your community now? How will you continue to give back to your community and school in college and as an adult? How has your volunteering impacted the person you are and how you see the world? John Anthony “Beno” Borzell Scholarship

Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior scholar athlete accepted into a four year Baccalaureate degree program majoring in Environmental Science or a related science.

Essay required : In at least 500 words write a solid essay on the following topic: Why should you receive the John Anthony “Beno” Borzell Memorial Scholarship.

John B. Campbell Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who resides in Exeter or any senior whose parent or grandparent is a member of the Exeter Lions Club and has been accepted to a trade School, technical college, community college or 4 year college/university. Financial need will be considered.

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words indicate your ambitions, intentions and reason for applying for this scholarship.

James & Rosemary Campenni Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who resides in West Pittston. Preference will be given to athletes who have participated in at least one full year of a varsity sport during his/her junior or senior year.  The applicant must continue their post-secondary education, following the year graduated, at a four year accredited college.   

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words each applicant must include a personal statement (which can be the one sent to colleges with the applicant's applications for admission). 

An interview may be conducted of selected applicants.

Matthew Chipolis Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be graduating WA senior who has been accepted to a 2 or 4 year college or a trade school program of higher learning or specialized education.Essay Required: in an original written statement of at least 500 words, relating a personal example of how he/she has provided support to the community and how he/she has helped a peer experiencing difficult circumstances. Explain why this situation was important and how this expression of empathy and responsiveness made you feel. An interview may be conducted of selected applicants.

Joseph “Cooch” Ciampi Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior who has been accepted to a 2 year technical or trade school, a community college or a 4 year college or university.Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words state:1. Describe your hopes, dreams, ambitions in life and include your life motto if you have one.

Joe’s motto was: “I am not here for a long time, I am here for a good time.”2. Tell a story of how you helped someone. For Example: Joe pulled over on the Turnpike to

help an elderly couple who needed their tire changed. On another occasion, Joe performed CPR on a man in a restroom at the Arena and saved his life.

3. Selected finalists will be required to meet with the Ciampi family to relate a life story about themselves, something that will honor Joe’s quick wit of storytelling with laugher.

An interview will be conducted of selected applicants.

Casimir J. Dylo Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded to a Wyoming Area graduating senior. A separate application is needed for this scholarship. See Mrs. Rabel in the guidance office for this scholarship if you have a relative who is a member of the Masons.

Sarah J. Dymond Elementary School Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has attended the Sarah J. Dymond School at some point in his/her education while a student in the Wyoming Area School District and been accepted to a trade, technical 2 or 4 year college or university.

Essay required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words tell us your favorite experience at Sarah J Dymond Elementary School that has left an impression on you or impacted your life.

Exeter American Legion Post 833 Lt. Adam Kalmanowicz Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is sponsored by the Exeter American Legion Post 833 Lt Adam Kalmanowicz. Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior who has handed in official commitment papers to any branch of the military service to Mrs. Rabel in a timely fashion.

Required: Complete only American Legion Page for this application and attach a copy of your official ENLISTMENT papers as proof of your commitment to the branch of the armed service which you have joined. Enlistment papers and completed form must be handed in to Mrs. Rabel by Feb. 10, 2017.

Fallen Warrior Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been accepted to a trade school, technical college, community college or a 4 year college/university.

Essay required: The families of the Fallen Warriors have been forced to overcome unbearable hardships due to their loss. In a solid essay of at least 500 words, write about an obstacle you have faced and overcome in your life.

Donald Fetsko Memorial Scholarship

Candidates for the Donald Fetsko Memorial Scholarship are: individuals who are Wyoming Area graduating seniors, who have been accepted to a 2 or 4 year college or trade school.  Preference will be given to those candidates who have participated in varsity Track or Basketball, or have had consistent part time jobs after school. The $2000 scholarship will be given thusly: $500 will be awarded at the Celebration of Scholarships and $1500 at the end of the first semester paid to the school which recipient is attending, with all enrolled-in courses passed with at least a C, and QPA of 2.75 at that time.  The Donald Fetsko selection committee will make the final decision for the award.

Geisinger Blood Center Scholarships

Preference will be given to those Wyoming Area Graduating Senior applicants who donated blood and/or worked at the blood drives as a member of the Wyoming Key Club. All seniors who have donated blood or worked at the Wyoming Area Key club Blood Drive and plan to attend a 2 or 4 year college or trade school are eligible to apply for these award(s). However, funds for this scholarship depend on a minimum of 30 Wyoming Area students donating blood at 2 separate blood drives.

Atty. Charles J. Giacometti Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating student who has been accepted to a 4 Year College/University.

Essay Required: Write a solid essay of 500 words or more. Please tell the scholarship committee some things about yourself, your strengths and leadership skills by discussing extracurricular activities, community or volunteer work and awards. Show the committee that you are deserving of this scholarship and will use the funds wisely to support your education.  Please do not use any of the information that was already covered in the application.

Ivo and Tosca Giannini Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to the graduating Wyoming Area senior with the highest scholastic average for 4 years (Grades 9, 10, 11 & 12) who resides in West Wyoming.

Stephanie Godri-Johnston Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to the graduating Wyoming Area senior who has a minimum cumulative GPA of 88 and accepted at a 4 year college/university. Preference will be given to a student who is currently competing in either (or both) Track & Field or Cross Country and has been doing so for at least the last two consecutive years. The candidate must also participate in some form of volunteer activity that benefits others.

Essay Required: All candidates must complete a solid essay of at least 500 words discussing the following: (1). What challenges have you encountered and how were you able to implement a balance between school work, volunteer activities, sports, job and social life? (2). Why do you believe that you should be awarded the Stephanie Godri-Johnston Memorial Scholarship?

An interview will be conducted of selected applicants.

Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce Women’s Network Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating female senior who has been accepted to a trade, technical, certificate program, community, or a 2 or 4 Year College/University.

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been accepted to a trade, technical, certificate program, community, or a 2 or 4 Year College/University.

Essay required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words tell us in your own words why you think you should receive a scholarship from the Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce. State what it is you intend to study and what your expectations are following graduation.

Greater Pittston Friendly Sons of St. Patrick Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded to a Wyoming Area graduating senior of verified Irish decent. A separate application is needed for this scholarship. See Mrs. Rabel in the guidance office for this scholarship application.

Andrew D. Griglock Memorial Scholarship 

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been accepted to a 2 or 4 year college/university.  Applicants should have been an active member of a Wyoming Area group (music or athletics) for at least two years during high school. Two scholarships will be given: 1 for music and 1 for athletics.

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 word explain the role that music/athletics has played in your life. How have you shared this with others (especially how you may have used your experiences in these areas to enrich the lives of those around you)?

Leonard C. Insalaco II Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been accepted to a trade school, technical college, community college or 4 year college/university. Student and/or Parent/Guardian must be an active regular or junior member of a rescue/fire/ambulance group in the Wyoming Area communities.

Requirement: Download & Complete Insalaco Page in the application folder. Use this form to verify membership as a volunteer in the organization listed. Hand in with application.

Larinda Kaufer Family Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has had to overcome specific challenges in order to graduate from high school. We are looking for students who may have faced learning disabilities, physical challenges or obstacles in their lives. The $1000.00 scholarship is to assist with the costs associated with the student’s studies in a training program, vocational, trade or technical school, 2 or 4 year college or university of the applicant’s choice. Recipient must be known to show consideration and respect to the students, faculty and administrators in their school and community. All majors will be considered.

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words explain how you have coped with your challenges. Tell us about your future goals and how you can be an advocate based on your own experiences to encourage and support others. Larinda recognizes the importance and value of all students and that everyone should have the opportunity to further their education and advocate for others.

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been accepted to a 4 year college/university and has been a member of the Wyoming Area Drama Club.

Mark J. Kleback Memorial “Outstanding Thespian” Award

Applicants must have been inducted into the WA Thespian Society.

GIVING out and COLLECTING the KLEBACK AWARD forms:1. Interested applicants can get a form from Mr. Yarmey or from the internet/school web site

wyomingarea.org. Go to the scholarship section under Guidance. Click on downloads.

2. Applicants fill out the Kleback Form and hand to Mr. Yarmey for his signature.

3. Mr. Yarmey signs the form to verify that applicant is an active honor member of the Wyoming Area Thespian Troop #4795

4. Each applicant gives a signed original completed copy to Mr. Yarmey.

5. Mr. Yarmey gives the ORIGINALS to Mrs. Rabel keeping a copy so he can write notes on it if needed.

6. Once we have all of them; we will turn them over to Mrs. Kleback.

7. Deadline for interested students applying for this award:  as soon as you get the form and complete/sign it and hand it in to Mr. Yarmey.

8. Kleback selection committee makes the final selection for this award.

Nadia Marinangeli Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been accepted to a 2 or 4 year college/university. All majors will be considered. Each applicant must have a minimum cumulative 85 GPA.

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words – Explain the importance of how your future major will positively impact today’s society.

Michael McClernon Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior who has used his/her musical talents in a way similar to Michael. Preference will be given to musical talent but other related talents will also be considered. The recipient will be a student who represents the entire Wyoming Area student body and should be well-rounded with school and community involvement with at least an average academic record and who will be attending a trade, technical, 2 or 4 year college or university.

Essay Required: In at least 500 words, tell us how your life is similar to Michael McClernon's to include why you should be awarded this scholarship.

Applicant must be a graduating member of the Wyoming Area boys’/girls’ basketball team who has been accepted to a trade school, technical college, community college or 4 year college/university.

your application.

Ruth Boorom Melberger Scholarship

How to qualify: Wyoming Area graduating seniors who have been accepted to Wilkes University become part of a pool for this award which is based on financial need. You do not need to complete the Wyoming Area Scholarship Application to qualify for this scholarship. The Wyoming Area recipient(s) for this scholarship are selected by a committee made up of Wilkes University staff and a member of the Melberger family.

Dr. Joseph A. Miller Jr. Scholarship

Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior who has been accepted as a full time student at a 4 Year College/University who will study STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) or the teaching of STEM. Applicant may attend a 2 or 4 year college: if attending a 2 year school the reason must be clearly stated in the essay.

Criteria for selection:GPA (Cumulative 9, 10, 11, 12); ACT or SAT scores; Course Rigor will also be considered.

Required: In addition to the application packet also complete the Dr. Miller Page to apply for this scholarship.

Two (2) Typed Essays Required:

Required Essays: Complete the following essays in at least 500 words. Both must be typed, signed and dated by the applicant. (1). Explain why the college selected was a good choice for you; why did you pick STEM and

what do you intend to do with your degree.(2). Describe an experience in your life that helped shape or define your personal characteristics,

values and beliefs. Possible characteristics could include leadership, creativity, risk-taking, honesty, perseverance, loyalty, generosity, optimistic attitude, etc.

Marc E. Minichello Memorial Scholarship Two $1022.00 scholarships are being offered to Wyoming Area graduating seniors who are planning to attend a trade, technical, community college or a four year college or university. A committee selected by the Marc E. Minichello family will make the final selection for this award. An interview may be part of this process.

Moose Lodge #1207 Governors Award

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has participated in a sport or cheerleading during their senior year with a minimum cumulative non-weighted QPA (Grades 9, 10, 11, 12) of 80 or above and has been accepted to a trade school, technical college, community college or 4 year college/university.

Requirement s : Complete only the Moose Application Page to apply for this award. Hand this form to Mrs. Rabel along with your other applications.

James ‘Jamie’ Oliveri Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been accepted to a 2 or 4 year college or university or a legitimate non degree Professional School for the Arts. Preference will be given to those pursuing degrees in Graphic Design (online and multimedia applications, interactive design, typography, page layout, produce design, publishing applications and advertising), Fine Arts (sculpture, painting, drawing and photography), Architecture or an Arts related field. Preference will also be given to an applicant who has personal characterizes and traits similar to Jamie.

Required Essay: Each applicant must submit a solid essay of at least 500 words explaining why you think you deserve this scholarship. What are your future goals and ambitions? What interests you about this field and what attributes do you share with Jamie.

M. Elaine Panzitta Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship is intended to encourage a student to explore the world and himself or herself through academic studies and to assist in directing his or her energies toward a career of service to others.  It will be awarded to a student intending to pursue higher education and planning to major in one or more of the following areas of study: social work; psychology; philosophy; the arts; architecture or law.  The M. Elaine Panzitta Memorial Scholarship Selection Committee will select the candidate for this award. An interview may be part of the scholarship Award process.

Required Essay:  No word count requirement or limit.  Please accept the following challenge with an original written presentation that addresses the following:

You are asked to design a community project that would bring the most benefit to all.  What would the project be and what would be the goals for the project?  Why did you select this specific initiative?    

Michael B. Pedley Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been accepted full or part time to a Trade School, Technical College, Community College or 4 Year College/University. Financial need will be considered.

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words describe your future goals and explain how education will play a key role in attaining those goals. What makes you smile and how do you make others smile.

Michael L. Pesta Memorial UFCW CFCU Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been accepted full or part time in the business field at a Technical College, Community College for 2 years or a 4 Year College/University.

Essay Required : In a solid essay of at least 500 words, indicate your ambitions, intentions and reasons for applying for this scholarship.

Francis and Joanne Nelson Pineno Scholarships

You do not need to complete the Wyoming Area Scholarship Application to qualify for this scholarship. These are open to Wyoming Area graduating seniors.

Two scholarships have been established in Francis and Joanne Nelson Pineno’s names. One scholarship is awarded to a full time undergraduate student planning to enroll at Penn State University and another is awarded to a full time undergraduate student planning to enroll at Bloomsburg University. Criteria for selection have been established by the donors.

Criteria: Student has achieved positive academic records, as demonstrated by above-average SAT scores and grades, or who manifest promise of academic success; who are active in extra-curricular activities; and who have a proven financial need. (Students must have filed the most recent Free Application for federal Student Aid – FASA– to be considered.) First preference shall be given to students who have graduated from Wyoming Area High School. Should it become necessary, the search may be broadened further to include students other than those from the above referenced high school.

Kathleen Keder Pitcavage Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating Wyoming Area senior majoring in education at a 2 year or 4 year college or university.  However, preference will be given to elementary education majors. Also considered will be such majors as speech pathology or any career that involves working with children in what would be considered an educational setting and which would involve some type of teaching.   If there is more than one recipient, the award will be divided equally among the recipients.  A selection committee will make the final decision on this award. An interview may be part of the selection process.

Essay Required: A solid essay of at least 500 words should address the following questions: How and when did your interest in teaching begin? What influenced it? Include in your essay why you feel you should be awarded this particular scholarship.

Pittston Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1982 Nursing/Health Care Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior accepted to a 2 or 4 year nursing college/university. Health Care majors will be considered but preference is for nursing majors.

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating seniors who will pursue a BA or BFA degree with a major in the Performing Arts (Dance, Theater, Music, etc.), Visual Arts (Film, Broadcasting/Television, etc.), Fine Arts (Painting, Sculpture, Photography, etc.), or in an arts related field (i.e. Literature, Art History, Creative Writing, Arts Education, etc.). The Applicant may also be pursuing the study of Performing, Visual or Fine Art at a legitimate, non-degree Professional School for the Arts. Student must be enrolled as a full time ’college’ student.

This $2500 scholarship will be awarded thusly: At the Celebration in May the recipient will receive $ 500; An additional $1000 upon the student verifying successful completion of

Semester I; The final $1000 upon the student verifying successful completion of their

This scholarship is awarded to the graduating Wyoming Area senior who has been accepted to a 4 year college /University pursuing a degree in Education (preferably Elementary Education Majors). However, also considered will be such majors as speech pathology or any career that involves working with children in what would be considered an educational setting and which would involve some type of teaching.

Essay Required: In a solid essay of at least 500 words explain why you have an interest in Education (designate level of interest: Elementary Education or Secondary Education), telling how this interest developed.

Rotary Club of Wyoming ScholarshipApplicant must be graduating Wyoming Are Senior with a GPA of at least 80 and actively involved in community service and has been accepted to a trade, technical or vocational school; a community college or a 4 year college or university.

This scholarship is awarded to the graduating Wyoming Area senior who has been accepted to a four year college / university.

This scholarship requires as many letters of recommendation as possible 2 of which should be from Wyoming area staff members.

Essay Required: Write a succinct essay of no more than 500 words addressing the following: The importance and value of family; how the award would be helpful after graduation; efforts put forth to meet educational goals; community, school or family circumstances that have been important in enhancing academic and social development; special skills or circumstances that have helped in meeting the criteria above.

Anthony and Amelia Scalzo Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a graduating Wyoming Area senior who has been accepted to a trade or technical school; a community college or a 4 year college/university. Applicant should show a love for their school and community by deed/services to each. It is understood that applicants show academic success in high school and have earned the respect of faculty as well as peers.

Jennifer A. Sidari, M.D. Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to the graduating Wyoming Area senior who exhibits and shares Jenn’s selfless caring for others and her quest for excellence in the medical and health care professions. All applicants must have achieved a 90 cumulative GPA in high school, submit an essay for review and possibly attend an interview. The award will be granted in 2 parts: the first half will be awarded at the celebration and the second half upon completion of the first semester of college or trade school with a cumulative GPA of 3.50. The recipient will provide an official transcript to Mrs. Rabel of his/her first semester college/trade school grades who in turn will turn this transcript over to the Sidari Family for reimbursement to the recipient.

This scholarship will be given to a graduating Wyoming Area senior who will be attending an accredited 4 year college/university. Preference will be given to a student planning to enter a medical or science related field. Student must be an active member of a Wyoming Area sports team, preferably baseball or softball. Student must have a minimum cumulative (Grades 9, 10, 11 and Semester 1 of Grade 12) QPA of at least 90.

Wyoming Area Boys and Girls Soccer Parents Scholarship

Applicant must be a Wyoming Area graduating senior who has been a member of the boys’ or girls’ soccer teams for three years one of which is as a senior and who is planning to attend a 2 or 4 year trade/technical/community college or college or university. Wyoming Area Class of 2017 “Gives Back” Scholarship

No application is necessary to win this award. The Wyoming Area graduating senior who is ranked 17th in the graduating class of 2018 will receive an award. In addition, the parents organization has decided to award an additional award based on criteria, set by them. Rank will be based on the cumulative GPA Grades 9, 10, 11 12 at the time senior rankings become available (sometime in May, 2018).

Criteria: Applicant must be a member in good standing of the Wyoming Area Wrestling Team during both the Junior and Senior years of high school and have a cumulative GPA (grades 9-12) of at least 85.

*NOTE: If there is no senior wrestler who applies/qualifies for this scholarship, the committee will look at awarding this scholarship to an outstanding qualifying Wyoming Area athlete.
