20 May 2005 All Uniform Groups OCs Units Through: The Principal Clementi Town NPCC unit is proud to organise Images of Total Defence: NPCC Photography Competition 2005. The event will be held at Clementi Town Secondary School on 9th Jul 2005. As such, we would like to extend our invitation to all uniform groups to participate in this competition. The competition will be divided into 2 phases. Phase 1: Participation in the Total Defence photo Competition 2005 - "Total Defence Caught in Action!" Phase 2: Participation in the "Images of Total Defence: NPCC Photography Competition 2005" Participation in the Photo Competitions stated above

1. Students and officers are encouraged to participate in both the above 2 competitions, based on the two phases stated.

2. Students and officers should first submit the photographs for the Total

Defence photo Competition 2005 - "Total Defence Caught in Action!". After this, they can submit the same photographs as a storyboard for the "Images of Total Defence: NPCC Photography Competition 2005"

3. All rules and regulations for each competition applies.

Rules & Regulations for Phase 1: Total Defence photo Competition 2005 - "Total Defence Caught in Action!"

1. Closing date for competition is 15th May 2005. 2. Please refer to enclosed entry form for detailed rules and regulations.



Rules & Regulations for Phase 2: Images of Total Defence: NPCC Photography Competition 2005

1. The competition is open to all Uniform Groups Cadets and Officers.

(National Police Cadet Corps, National Civil Defence Corps, National Cadet Corps, Scout, Girl Guides, Boys Brigade, Girls Brigade, Singapore Red Cross, St John Ambulance Brigade.).

2. The theme of the photo competition is the Images of Total Defence. 3. There are 2 main categories for participation:

a) Cadet’s category b) Officer’s category

Cadet’s category (Team) i. Each team must have a minimum of 2 persons and a maximum

of 5 persons. ii. Each entry must have a minimum of 3 photographs and a

maximum of 8 photographs. iii. Cadets are to develop a story board based on the photographs

taken and the storyboard MUST be related to all 5 aspect of Total Defence.

iv. All entries MUST be printed (5R size) and mounted on cardboard, not lager than 20inch by 24 inch.

v. All cadets will be able to use the story board as the Total Defence Project for the Total Defence Badge (Silver / Gold).

The story board submitted will be considered for TD Badge based on the following criteria:

Silver Module - 10 Points awarded as a project under the ‘Total Defence Menu of Activities’ section.

Gold Module - 5 Points awarded as a project under ‘I want to be a Total Defence Ambassador’ section.

Officer’s category i. Officers can submit as many entries as they want. ii. The photographs must also be accompanied with a caption to

relate the pictures to the theme. iii. All entries must be submitted in print (8R size) and mounted

with the caption.

4. All entry softcopy / negatives must be submitted as well. 5. The photographs should be an original work that has been taken

either with a camera or a digital camera.



6. Photographs MUST NOT be manipulated in any way. 7. All uniform groups who are interested in participating in the

competition are to register with Clementi Town NPCC unit by 20th May 2005 (EXTEND to 3rd Jun 2005). Thereafter, participants will be given a list of places that they can get a discount to print their photos.

8. All photographs must be printed in either 5R-size or 8R-size and

sent to Clementi Town Secondary School by 1th July 2005, 12:00 pm

9. All entries (soft copy) must reach Clementi Town Secondary School

by 1st July 2005, 12:00 pm through any of the following means:

a. Email it to [email protected] or [email protected]. OR

b. Store it in diskette or CD-ROM and send it to Clementi Town Secondary School

10. The Name, Rank, Unit, telephone number of the officers/cadets and

the location of the picture taken must be clearly stated on all entries. 11. The criteria to the winning photos are based on originality,

creativity and relevance to the theme. 12. Entries that do not fulfill any of the above conditions will be

disqualified. 13. The decision of the organizers and judges is final. 14. The Copyright for all the printed and digital photographs submitted

for the competition, shall belong to the organizers. 15. There will be an exhibition held in Clementi Town Secondary on 9th

July 2005. All participants are invited to attend the event as the judging and prize presentation will be on that day as well.

Question and Answer

1. Why are there 2 phases to the competition?

This is because the organisers of the NPCC Photography Competition have teamed up with Nexus to promote the Total Defence Photo Competition 2005 - "Total Defence Caught in Action!", thus making both competitions more attractive to UG members!

2. Must I take part in both phases?

Participants are strongly encouraged to take part in both phases, but if they miss out Phase 1, they will still be able to take part in Phase 2.

3. If I take part in Phase 1 alone, will I be able to get the TD Badge?

You will need to take part in the Phase 2 as well then you will be able to get the certificate of participation. With the certificate, it can be considered as one of the projects under the Total Defence Badge programme, subjected to the individual badge’s qualifying requirements.

4. How do I submit the entries for Phase 1?

You can either submit the entry to Clementi Town Secondary School and state Total Defence Photo Competition 2005 - "Total Defence Caught in Action!" by 10th May 2005 or submit through the various ways stated in the entry form as attached.

5. What do you mean by the theme: "Images of Total Defence"?

Participants are encouraged to take photographs which depict their personal interpretation of Total Defence. Students can refer to the TD website at www.totaldefence.org.sg for more information about the five aspects of Total Defence.

6. Is there a limit to the number of participants per school? As we encourage students to learn more about Total Defence, we are not limiting the number of participants per school. But each person is only allowed to enter the Images of Total Defence: NPCC Photography Competition 2005

once. (Except for officers)

7. What do you mean by storyboard? Cadets are supposed to use the photos taken to come out with a ‘Picture Storyboard’ mounted on a display board. The story MUST be linked to the 5 aspects of Total Defence.

8. Can I add graphics to the storyboard?

Yes, you may add graphics to the storyboard but DO NOT modify the photos taken.



9. What do you mean by "Storyboard can be used as a Total Defence

Project (Silver/ Gold)". The storyboard is considered for TD Badge based on the following criteria: Silver Modules - 10 Points Gold Modules - 5 Points

10. Why do we need to register with the school so early in May when the

competition is in July? The reason for early registration is that we would want to give participants more time in their June holidays to prepare the story board. Also, once we receive the entry form, participants will be given a discount card and will be able to use it immediately.

11. What discounts are we getting?

We are coming up with a discount card which you may use at all the participating outlets. These are specified on the card itself. The discount card will be sent to the schools once we receive your entry forms.

12. What will we be expecting on the day of judging?

Participants are expected to turn up on 9 Jul 2005 as the prizes presentation is on the day itself. Visitor will also be able to view the exhibits put up by various organizations. There will be fire fighting, crime prevention display, First Aid, and many more.
