WEMA Precise Production Engineering for almost 150 years

Innovations and high accuracies stand also for the strength of WEMA.

Founded in 1857, by the two machine- and foundry foremen Heinrich Billeter and

Wilhelm Klunz, the company became famous with their single column planer,shown 1896 at the world exhibition in Paris. 1931 the company designed and con-

structed the first worldwide grinding machine. Since then, mainly portal milling

machines and slideway grinding machines have been produced in the Werkzeug-

maschinenfabrik Aschersleben. Today, latest effective machine tools are produced

under the name of SCHIESS.

In particular, our round or rectangular

rams guarantee a high level of techni-

workpieces, such as milling deep sur-

High precision in the machining process in metal-cutting design, the high life span

of the machines as well as flexibility for the most varied machining tasks were the

main idea for producing large machining centers. They are fitted with backlash-free

pre-loaded and absolutely wear-free hydrostatic guideways in circular and linear

axes. The machines have high driving power, variable speed control and high rapid

traverses as well as separate oil cooling circuits for the axes for thermal compensa-

tion. All machine frames components are extremely sturdy and compact.

With the VERTIMASTER series, we have

designed a reliable, powerful and uni-

versal CNC-machining center. The tur-

ning, boring and milling technological

processes can be carried out in one set-

ting. This is especially interesting for

complex, rotationally symmetrical work-

pieces when machining large parts.

High driving capacities of the face plate

and milling spindles guarantee efficient

machining. This machine design is cha-

racterized by its economic efficiency

and especially its flexibility. It offers the

user a remarkably shorter machining of

workpieces by reducing the transporta-

tion, clamping, alignment and setting-uptimes. An optional available Y-axis con-

siderably contributes to that.

The modular system configuration can

be adapted to the requirements of the

customer to machine a wide range of

parts. The universal boring and milling

head and the integrated technically high

quality configured A-axis permit the

simultaneous machining of the workpie-ces in 5 axes.

The software package designed specifi-

cally for the machine is user-friendly to

operate and program. It clearly contri-

butes to reduce the production times.

Our large machining centers of the VER-

TIMASTER 2-12-series are among the

biggest and most modern machine tools

in the world.

These CNC Turning and Milling Centers

in Table and Gantry design can be adap-

ted to all the specific machining requi-

rements of our customers.

Each required combination in the machining processes turning,

milling, drilling and boring with linear and circular axes is

possible. Grinding and threading with reliable attachments in

one setting according to the customers requirement and in

various degrees of automation are part of our portal machine

concepts as well.

The geometric machine and attachment dimensions for your

machining task will be tailor-made for you.

With this series of machines the production time for your com-

This machine series comprises a single

column machine with the most modern

drive and control systems, allowing the

greatest possible precision and optimal

performance of the open system.

Due to this modular and flexible system

configuration the HORIMASTER series

can be individually adjusted to the

requirements of the customer e.g. with

automatic tool change and head change

in pick-up version.

It considerably increases (with appropria-

te investment) the range of parts that

can be machined on it. Among the

machines that are equipped with rams

SCHIESS offers powerful girder / spindlesolutions in hydrostatic construction.

Backlash-free pre-loaded and absolutely wear-free hydrostatic

guideways for round and linear axes provide maximum uti-

lization for all desired machining tasks.

A guiding system is used for the linear axes, which consists of

identical components. The hydrostatic guided ram is equipped

with fully integrated drives for spindle and head swiveling and

with a clamping system. An infinitely adjustable speed control

of the milling spindle is also included.

Our contract machining department has an annual capacity of

over 120.000 machining hours. Therefore we are in a position

to not only produce for our own requirements, but also to

machine parts and units for the German and European

engineering industry. This business segment provides our

customers with precision machining of high quality workpie-

ces made of casting, steel or aluminum. We manufacture

highly accurate medium-sized and large parts.
