IMAGE INTERPRETATION BRIGHTNESS Vividness, richness, intensity, brilliance splendor and re- splendence are synonyms of brightness. Brightness is an aribute of visual percepon in which a source appears to be radiang or reflecng light. In other words, brightness is the percepon elicited by the luminance of a visual target. This is a subjecve aribute/property of an object being observed. SHARP A sharp space is a space that is defined as clear in outline or detail. A space is set forth with clarity and disnctness. I will use the term sharp or acute to give sensivity and percepon to important spaces. The sharp aribute will give proporon and importance to the spaces marking differences and hierarchies. TRANSPARENCY It is , the capability of seeing through an otherwise solid ob- ject. In architecture, transparency makes us perceive different spaces simultaneously, creang different percepons and sen- saons inside or outside the space. To achieve transparency through a building which is made out of solid elements, it is important to consider two aspects: permeability and reflec- on. Transparency is a condion of passing or seeing through. Transparency is connecon and connuity; it is a dialecc be- tween revealing and concealing, as well as between seeing and reading. A transparent medium, substance, or maer al- lows, permits, and invites light, air, and sight to penetrate through. Transparency relates to diaphaneity, translucency, and layering. Translucency can be defined as the condion exisng within the connuum between opacity and transpar- ency, between the two polaries of obscurity and clarity, be- tween solid and void.

IMAGE INTERPRETATION

BRIGHTNESS

Vividness, richness, intensity, brilliance splendor and re-splendence are synonyms of brightness. Brightness is an attribute of visual perception in which a source appears to be radiating or reflecting light. In other words, brightness is the perception elicited by the luminance of a visual target. This is a subjective attribute/property of an object being observed.

SHARP

A sharp space is a space that is defined as clear in outline or detail. A space is set forth with clarity and distinctness. I will use the term sharp or acute to give sensitivity and perception to important spaces. The sharp attribute will give proportion and importance to the spaces marking differences and hierarchies.

TRANSPARENCY

It is , the capability of seeing through an otherwise solid ob-ject. In architecture, transparency makes us perceive different spaces simultaneously, creating different perceptions and sen-sations inside or outside the space. To achieve transparency through a building which is made out of solid elements, it is important to consider two aspects: permeability and reflec-tion. Transparency is a condition of passing or seeing through. Transparency is connection and continuity; it is a dialectic be-tween revealing and concealing, as well as between seeing and reading. A transparent medium, substance, or matter al-lows, permits, and invites light, air, and sight to penetrate through. Transparency relates to diaphaneity, translucency, and layering. Translucency can be defined as the condition existing within the continuum between opacity and transpar-ency, between the two polarities of obscurity and clarity, be-tween solid and void.

“Spatial continuity between spaces will be created not by omitting barriers but by pierc-ing them with wide openings and brightness so that views are always framed…Often the connection between spaces will only visual, as through a facade. At their interface, these spaces have a theatrical quality” As such, the viewer is allowed to ‘journey’ through the space creating a spatial continuum of the layered planes-spaces. Sharp spaces distinct in outline and detail; clearly defined. This re-iterates the notion of transparency as a see-ing- or passing-through, that is, a course, a penetration, or a passing through of the gaze. Not only transparency as a condi-tion of material or substance, permitting the “passing through” of light, air, and sight, but also a condition of organization, simplicity, brightness and ordering.
