Intelligent, opto-electronic protective devices can be used for vertical and horizontal hazardous point, area and access protection.
The devices can differentiate between products and peo-ple, if required. And they can do this without disrupting workflows. For maximum profitability and safety.

opto-electronic protective devices
Selection of opto-electronic protective devices
The use of opto-electronic protec-tive devices instead of mechanical protective devices is recommended when an operator must intervene in a process and is thus subjected to danger. Opto-electronic pro- tective devices reduce access times, increase productivity and improve the ergonomics of a workplace. In addition, operators and other people are equally protected.
The basic criteria for the selection of an opto-electronic protective device depend on a variety of requirements, such as:
The standards to be observed The space available in front of the hazardous area Commercial criteria Ergonomic factors (e.g. periodic insertion of parts, or no need for periodic access).

V4000 Press Brake is a camera-based safety system for bending presses which comprises a sender and receiver mounted level with the tool and generates a protective area below it. This is used to monitor the fast closing motion of the press. In addition to the optical components, V4000 Press Brake also includes complete signal evaluation and requires no additional components. The system can be easily integrated because it uses the already available signals of the linear measurement systems of the press for determining the position, speed, direction and stopping distance.

Safety light curtains are used for finger and hand protection. They com-prise a sender and receiver and ope-rate contact-free. Dependant on the type, different machine functions are integrated or can be selected via safe control solutions: Restart interlock, external device monitoring, fixed/floa-ting blanking, PSDI function, bypass function, operating mode selection, cascading, etc.

Safety position switches are used to detect positions or as hinge switches.
applicationsi10H and i110H hinge switches ensu-re that rotating protective devices are closed. Safety position switches ensure safe position monitoring even for very fast movements or where exact positions must be determined. In addition, IN4000 safety switches (see next page) permit electro-sen-sitive and wear-free position monito-ring.

Since SICK safety switches operate on an electro-sensitive basis they have great advantages compared with electro-mechanical safety switches and are therefore an optimal addition. Three sensor technologies and diffe-rent versions of the evaluation units (semiconductor or relay) facilitate solutions for a number of different applications.
applicationsIdeal for situations where protection against manipulation is required, where there are vibrations or where greater tolerances are required. For places which are very dirty or where very high hygienic require-ments must be observed.Ideal for protection or position moni-toring of places which are difficult to reach (maintenance-free).Low-cost protection of up to 10 doors or monitoring of up to 10 positions.
