Around 2 million people in the UK have vision impairment. It is therefore essential to designand maintain people’s homes and commercial environments to address this. Using coloursthat reflect light and contrasting colours help to differentiate objects/walls from a surroundinghelping to make most of a persons sight. Ceramic wall and floor tiles with skirting tiles mustmatch the walls in order to meet the recommendations of BS8300 which states ‘Whilst thereis considerable confidence in recommending a difference in LRV (Light reflective value) of30 points or more (the good zone) there is also some evidence to suggest that a differenceof around 20 points might still be acceptable, provided the illuminance on the surfaces is200 lux or more.
