Greetings to Everyone!!!

We are back with the updates in the race car project. Royal Enfield helped our team by providing the heart of the car, the Royal Enfield 500cc EFI engine. The lifeline came in the form of distinguished IIT Roorkee alumnus, Mr. Pradeep Kapse, CEO Eicher Motors Ltd. We approached him as his juniors and within an hour he replied with an assurance of providing us a new engine from Royal Enfield. We sincerely appreciate his concern for the young juniors of his Alma-Mater We are deeply thankful to the following people:

These gentlemen quickly responded to our request and sponsored the engine for our team. Without their co-operation, we could not have moved forward in the project.

When the engine did not run after a few tries, the team worked 24x7 till the electrical issues were resolved. The team was ‘euphoric’ on hearing the engine run for the first time!

We have to face so many obstacles on this untrodden path. However, such hurdles cannot win over our spirit and confidence. The engine team, body team and power-train teams are all set to achieve huge goals this month.

We had college vacations in first week of October so this allowed us to spend nearly 24 hours a day in the workshop. Again, we stayed in the campus during the vacations, it’s been months that we visited our home and now on Diwali again we are in the campus working on the car. It seems that we could go home only after the competition in December. We hope that our sacrifice, hard work and your best wishes will yield a historical result for this young team of IIT Roorkee.

Engine Mounting Completed

• Royal Enfield 500 cc: Single Cylinder • Twins Spark, Electronic Fuel Ignition • Max Power: 27.2 bhp at 5250 rpm • Max Torque: 41.3 Nm at 4000 rpm • Custom intake with a 20 mm restrictor. • Custom Aluminum Exhaust • This engine will give us an edge over

other teams in the fuel efficiency.

Differential Assembly Completed

• The light weight Limit Slip ATB differential from Quaife (UK).

• The ATB (Automatic Torque Biasing) feature prevents the complete loss of drive that occurs with a conventional differential when one wheel slips.

• Can easily cope with 525lb/ft of torque at just 4,100rpm

• Custom made sprocket and housing to fit the design requirements of the car.

Our dearest Alumni: We thank you all!!!

We could not have moved this far in this project without alumni help. Our interaction with alumni began when we first visited the IIT Roorkee Global Alumni Meet at New Delhi in February, 2011. In June, we were complete with the major designs but we had no money, except our pocket-money, to buy the materials. At that time, we approached Mr. Pramod Saxena (1975 Chemical, IIT Roorkee). He acknowledged our request and discussed it with batch mates Mr. Pravesh Srivastava and Mr. Ravi Sharma and within a few days we received the initial funding of Rs. 2.5 lakhs, thus enabling us to give shape to our ideas. In no words, we can express our thankfulness to this trio.

The support and best wishes of our alumni is spread over generations from Dr. Shamsher Prakash of 1954 batch to Mr. Vipul Arora of 2010 batch covering thousands of alumni from USA, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Australia and India.

The strong bonding among IITians is apparent from the fact that not only from Roorkee but alumni from other IITs are also helping us wherever possible, to achieve our aim. We are overwhelmed to get this love and support from our dear seniors. All those whose contributions, either in the form of time, money or guidance, have helped us to come this far, are an integral part as the alumni team members of IIT Roorkee Motorsports.
