On the 18th – 20th of June 2010, the University Founda-

tion L.U.Me.N.Oli.S together with C.R.O.M.O.N. srl

(Centro Ricerche Olistiche per la Medicina Osteopatica

e Naturale) and Marrapese Edizioni, have organized the

second National event in Osteopathic Medicine.

The congress will have the following title:

2nd National Congress of Osteopathic Medicine

Scientists meet Osteopaths:

moving toward a Systemic Medicine

Osteopathy in the Ages of Life

The aim of the event will be to offer a solid context in which

doctors, dentists, scientists, clinicians, and osteopaths can ga-

ther together to share a common language, discuss their suc-

cesses as well as their doubts, needs and difficulties in

operating in a synergistic manner.

Up to now, Osteopathic Medicine has been mainly an Efficacy

Based Medicine. It has developed world wide because of its

emphasis on preventing disease processes, on relieving aches

and pains, on contributing to the healing process in patients

with frank pathologies and on assisting people with chronic

conditions to improve their quality of life.

However, as never before, Osteopathy is being required to be-

come an Evidence Based Medicine, translating its results into

a common clinical language.

eINTRODUCTION


The 2nd National Congress will be held over 3 days

The 3 days of congress will present, through 8 sessions, the

evidence and the different modalities of application of osteo-

pathic treatment in relation to the different ages of life (from

gestation to the elderly).

Each session will host 4-5 presenters, discussing results from

clinical trials in which the osteopathic and traditional medical

approaches have been applied in specific controlled clinical

contexts. At the end of each session, there will be time (30-40

minutes) for a “Round Table Session”.

There will be the opportunity for questions from the partici-

pants, but overall for a constructive discussion between the

speakers and special guests at the Round Table (such as In-

ternational Osteopaths or Guests, Chairs of the main Hospitals

in Rome, Chairs of the main Universities in Italy, Presidents of

different associations such as Italian Register of Osteopaths,

the Italian Register of Doctors and Dentists, political leaders

and many others).

The aim of the Round Table session will be to elaborate guide-

lines and research projects for scientific consensus on the sub-

jects presented during the previous sessions.

On the third day, there will be the possibility to participate in

one or two workshops lead by some of the international guests

and speakers of the congress.
