EPCH has been helpful in foreseeingthings and making timely interventions

EPCH has been helpful in foreseeing thingsand making timely interventions. With theonset of global recession, while all othermarkets for sourcing shows were immenselyaffected, IHGF Delhi Fair managed to pullserious buyers. Our buyers prefer to come tothis fair, rather than going around the worldlooking for different products, as here, they get all categories in home, lifestyle, fashion and textiles, under one roof. This show is one of themost sought after shows of its kind. Apart from international buyers, thisfair is witnessing manifold increase in domestic buyers too.

IHGF Delhi Fair has helped us move onfrom our traditional approach ofexhibiting and selling

IHGF Delhi Fair has upgraded from zero to itspresent level and it's all because of EPCH.Initially there were only around 300exporters whereas today you can see morethan 3000 exhibitors conducting businessunder one roof here. People in EPCH haveworked hard to make this show better. Earlier this was a kind of Indianshow but now this is an international fair. Exhibitors who are puttingtheir efforts and money here are getting what they are expecting fromthis fair. IHGF Delhi Fair has given us many ideas, be it about productupgradation or demands of buyers and this has helped us move on fromour traditional approach of exhibiting and selling. It has helped us toexpand our business as well. And if I talk about the textile industry, therehas been an increase of 400-500% in the industry over the years, allbecause of this fair. In the coming time, this fair is going to be alandmark fair in the world of exports and India is going to be the bestdestination for sourcing. All exporters involved in this processand progress deserve accolades

This is the 43rd spring fair. There has beentransformation in this fair at certain levels, forinstance at infrastructure as well as clientagelevel. Exporters of India showcase theirproducts to buyers from all around theworld. This is one of the biggest and thelargest shows, both nationally andinternationally. Initially, Frankfurt show was in trend but now this showis fast catching up with all other shows of its kind. It is great that aCouncil like EPCH is organizing this show that is today ranked amongthe top in the world. I, on behalf of EPCH, congratulate all our exportersinvolved in this process and progress. EPCH is helping this industry realize itsfull potential

Having been into this business since the lasttwo decades and 8 years with EPCH, I haveseen the monumental change in thehandicraft export industry. IHGF Delhi Fairhas helped every exporter to increase theirbusiness from ground zero to the sky. Icannot see any other platform as useful asIHGF. If we look at the history of Indian exports, it is getting better day byday and it is EPCH which is helping this industry realize its full potential. And if I talk about benefits to the North East Region (NER), this fair haschanged the life and the business of people over there. The NERhandicrafts industry which has been exhibiting handicrafts of naturalproducts and textile crafts, has been gaining attentions of the globalmarket which was in the dark earlier. The fair has given us new trends towork on and it is helping in getting buyers. I am expecting more andmore exhibitors from NER to this platform and I really appreciate theefforts of EPCH and IHGF for taking our businesses, global.Jesmina Zeliang, ProprietorJesmina Zeliang, ProprietorJesmina Zeliang, ProprietorJesmina Zeliang, ProprietorJesmina Zeliang, Proprietor,Heirloom Naga,Heirloom Naga,Heirloom Naga,Heirloom Naga,Heirloom Naga

IHGF Delhi Fair is on an expansion mode

In a single term, this fair is "One Stop Shop"for buyers across the country for all theproducts. From fashion to tradition, the fair isready to show you everything. It is beneficialfor those buyers who buy various products, not some particular products. The decision ofshifting this fair from Pragati Maidan to hereat the Expo Centre was a landmark move. AtPragati Maidan we were only around 600 exhibitors, whereas here wehave more than 3000. And the number of buyers has gone up from 100to over 6000. Buyers from across the globe are appreciating the fair andthe facilities being provided by IHGF and EPCH. The atmosphere and thepresentation are of international level. The layout of the Mart is also easyto understand. I can proudly say that this fair is comparable to the bestin the world and the only one of its kind. And we are on an expansionmode, right from the fair, to exhibitors and to buyers. I can see this fairpoised to become the best in the world.

With time this fair is inching ahead ofits counterparts in Europe and USA

This is a good show and attractive in termsof display. Exporters have come up withnewer assortments. All the exhibitors havedisplayed different colours, designs andtrends in their respective product categoriesat the IHGF Delhi Fair. With time this fair isinching ahead of its counterparts in Europeand the USA. Though we have a workforce of around 10 million artisansin our country, hand-made production was declining day by day inStates like Rajasthan. We are working to revive those art forms. With thecoordination of EPCH, we as part of National Centre for Design & ProductDevelopment (NCDPD), are also working on various projects towards thisendeavour. Participation of young exporters hasmade a constructive difference

This fair has grown positively with time. From 10 to 20 stalls in the past, now thereare 200 to 300 stalls in each displaycategory. The timing of this fair is great.Participation of young exporters has made aconstructive difference to the fair. Their wayof displaying products is good. We alsoincluded exporters from the North East Region to enhance their reachinternationally. There was a time when artisans of Rajasthan were notable to display their products in these fairs and now I feel, Rajasthan hasdeveloped more than any other State has, in terms of production andexport of their products. EPCH has done a commendable job throughoutto promote this sector and IHGF Delhi Fair.Sudhir TSudhir TSudhir TSudhir TSudhir Tyagi, Supras Internationalyagi, Supras Internationalyagi, Supras Internationalyagi, Supras Internationalyagi, Supras International

This Spring Fair looks good as it runs itscourse

This is a great platform and is at its peak, growing day by day. Frankfurt and Europeused to be the hub of exports and sourcing, involving large gatherings of buyers andsellers, but now, this trend has shifted as IHGFDelhi Fair has pulled the entire internationalcrowd towards itself. There is 20% increase inthe number of buyers coming to this fair, compared to IHGF Delhi Fair'sprevious February edition. EPCH has played an important role in this. They have worked hard. They have sent teams to Hong Kong, Paris, US,etc. to make sure that this show is promoted among a widerinternational clientele. Now all that EPCH needs to do is expand the fairin terms of space so that growing number of exhibitors can beaccommodated. Buyers are keen to source directly fromthe makers and manufacturing bases

This industry is expanding. Exporters wereearlier more interested in Frankfurt and HongKong trade fairs but the taste and inclinationof buyers has eventually changed. They nowwant to get products from the manufacturingcountries, from countries which actually craftor produce the products. This is why they arenow coming to this fair in large numbers. Right now the trend is suchthat, buyers are attracted to manufacturer exporters who are specializedin certain products unlike those who deal in a range of products. Focusis on the makers. Now, the industry has become more compliancespecific, be it social, legal or any other compliance related to production, workplace, occupational standards, etc.Anoop ShankhdharAnoop ShankhdharAnoop ShankhdharAnoop ShankhdharAnoop Shankhdhar, DBA India Exports Pvt. EPCH endeavours to bring this industrycloser to markets of the world

When I recollect the entire journey of theEPCH and the IHGF Delhi Fair, I rememberthat this fair was a very small platform beingorganized in order to gather exporters.EPCH's membership numbered a fewexporters and participation at this fair wasfairly low. With years of hard work, both havegrown. EPCH has a membership of 10,000 exporters and the IHGF DelhiFair that started with 300 exporters has reached participation of over3000 exhibitors. Everything has grown manifold. In my opinion, this fairis the biggest in the world and our products are sought after by thebiggest of importers and buyers. Buyers can also see products fromupcoming entrepreneurs and crafts persons at this fair who have distinctproducts that can be customized for various markets. EPCH, through itsendeavours is fulfilling its aim of nurturing and expanding India'shandicrafts industry and taking its reach to all markets in the world.Ashok K Arora, Stalwart ImpexAshok K Arora, Stalwart ImpexAshok K Arora, Stalwart ImpexAshok K Arora, Stalwart ImpexAshok K Arora, Stalwart Impex

EPCH has taken the Indian handicraftsindustry closer to the world

IHGF Delhi Fair has been amazingly great andthe way it has increased exports for thehandicrafts sector is excellent. Over the past 6-7 years, exports from this sector have reached23000 Cr. from 7000 Cr. This has been madepossible only due to the unstinting hard workof EPCH and its team towards building a brandfor Indian handicrafts, bringing together suppliers from India and buyersfrom every part of the world and offering an environment conducive forbusiness, replete with facilities and signature services for our tradevisitors. EPCH has also been in the forefront in its publicity activitieswhich has subsequently brought us within reach of a global audienceand facilitated presence of our products in every country ofthe world. These women practice an age old Ari Taricraft done to make products like odhanis and stoles.Their new generation is not engaged in this craftand is in fact drifting away from such artisanalwork. While working with these artisans we takecare to retain the originality of these crafts as wellas their sustainability and character attached tothis craft. Rather, we endeavor to bring in newdesigns and more options. These artisans takeinspiration from trees, leaves and patterns fromtheir surroundings to make their crafts. It is timeconsuming at the beginning but eventually bringin clarity and artisans involved in the project seedesign possibilities in their conventional products. For them it is like breaking a barrier and learning

Our basic idea was tomobilize these people to turn into full timeentrepreneurs and explore their products' marketpotential so that they improve their livelihood asdespite being highly skilled, these women earn verylittle. Integrated Design & Technical Development Projectswith Craft Traditions of Rural India offer opportunityfor exporters to source innovations

The Integrated Design and Technical Development Project is an initiative of theDevelopment Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, implemented by the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), New Delhiby engaging designers from leading design institutes from India. Various craftsfrom all over India were identified for this project aimed at training artisans practicingtraditional craft skills and upgrading as well as honing their skills to enabling themto bring out more marketable product variations with their existing craft skills. Atotal of 40 artisans, mostly women are trained in a project spanning 5 months thatstarts with survey & research to access the existing designs in a particular craft, theavailable materials, technical inputs, production process and marketability of theproduct. Subsequently the artisans are trained to interpret possibilities with theircraft as well as their commercial viability. The latter part of the project includesproduct development and market testing. It concludes with a line of innovatedproducts, technically termed design prototypes, using the artisans' existing materialsand skills. Each individual project signs off with confidence building and to further

explore, possibilities. The aim of this project is to engage new generation artisans who are drifting away from their family craft practices, to guide artisanstowards bringing out products as per market demand and suitability as well as to revive languishing crafts.

Crafts that people practice thereare mostly with either rich tribal or traditionalbackground. They make products like tribal shawlsand stoles as well as the famed 'Mekhla' which canbe described as a drape that locals use to coverthemselves. These products as of now have buyersin local markets and suited to this clientele's tastes, makers continued to use the traditional red, yellowand green in these products. As a designer Iintroduced some new ideas in form of differentcolour schemes without altering the products theywere already making. We have tried to introducedifferent colour schemes, using which newpatterns can be made. We also noticed that owingto local demand, people are using polyester andother synthetic material to make low cost options. We are coaxing them to stick to natural wools sothat these products can be exported to Europeancountries and other nations where they can caterthe need of buyers who need woolen clothes. Weare also working on introducing new designs inbags and stoles using the same craft technique.

My integrated design & technical developmentproject took place in Nagal, Saharangpur , UP, where40 artisans were trained for 3 months in handembroidery using stitches like running stitch, chainstitch, blanket stitch, back stitch, laisy daisy, etc. tocreate products like bags, cushion covers, table

runners, place mats, etc. which are market viableand trendy for the season. The artisans used tomake pillow covers, bed sheets using only chainstitch. I trained these artisans in the other stitchesto create visually appealing products. The artisansnow have more variety to offer to the customersnow which would help them to have better wages. As there is no market for these artisans, they makeblankets and pillows for domestic use. My project alsoinvolves crafts ofcane and bamboo butin Himachal Pradesh. The artisans in myproject were fully aswell as semi-skilled.They make productslike place-mats, office

dustbins, lights and few products for decorativepurposes. They also make jewellery using bamboo. The prevalence of these products is majorly in thedomestic market. To tune them for a wider buyerbase, proper design orientation was needed. Also,

infrastructure and machine are needed to supportthe process. People in this region of Himachal arealso engaged in making the famous Chambarumaal that uses needlework so intricate that thework appears on both sides of the fabric. Thisparticular craft is languishing as it is timeconsuming, arduous and doesn't fetch a justifiedprice in the local market. We are trying to revive it.Another product is the geometrically borderedKullu shawl. These are also handmade and theyuse basic colour schemes like red, yellow andgreen. We are trying to bring in new interpretationsin this.
