Delivery from stock in 24 h or today

On average in recent months over 97 percent of all 80,000 igus® catalog items asked for were immediately available. This trend is on the rise. The catalog items must be in stock in order to assemble and ship the structural components according to customer's requirements within hours. igus® delivers from stock within 24 hours or the same day. igus® delivers from a single unit and without any minimum quantity surcharges. The increased demand for ready-to-install energy chain systems®, the so-called readychains®, is supported by an organic growth of the factory, such as 3,500 m² of extended area for production of these turnkey systems. Assembled with special cables, hoses, connectors and all accessories, the complete systems are available in one to ten days depending on the degree of difficulty. In addition we have established a new on-site installation service covering a large area, which includes a guarantee and final report for the customer.

Over 111 new products (in 2011) – cost less, last longerYear after year, igus® provides an array of innovations and enhancements in the area of energy chains®, chainflex® cables and polymer plain bearings. In 2011 igus® introduced a record number of 111 product novelties. Contracts obtained with new plastic products, numerous compared to suppliers of metal solutions, prompt igus® to invest more heavily in material and product development. Thus, now in Antwerp, instead of a steel chain, the largest and maintenance-free plastic energy chain® in the world – the "E4.350" – is used to pump mud from the dock. Or the vertically traveling energy chain system® "guidelok" for storage and retrieval units, which does not require the continuous metallic trough anymore and thus reduces the trough costs by 80 percent.

In the second area – the polymer bearings – too, igus® relies on new products and materials. Lubrication- and maintenance-free iglidur® plastic plain bearings today replace millions of metallic bushings that need oil or grease. They also have a long and predictable life. And with over 10,000 items in stock, designers can use these innovations at once. The past year brought a further big boost in this regard. Because, the dry-running polymer bearings save money and increase the safety of machinery. An MIT study estimated the failure costs through insufficient lubrication in the U.S. alone at 240 billion dollars per year.

About 60 percent more factory space, streamlined processesigus® manufactures, tests and researches in Cologne now in a building area of 36,000 m2. The factory area has been extended to 29,000 m2, added to which are 7,000 m2 of surrounding buildings for, inter alia, additional fabrication, technical training and a large logistics center. A renewed enlargement is planned for late 2012. Own test facilities, more than 1,000 m² of test labThe test laboratory for energy chains® and cables from igus® currently has 1030 m². Our new standard products and customized energy chains® are constantly tested at more than 70 different test rigs. Many test rigs are designed and built by ourselves, since they are highly test specific. The test laboratory spectrum ranges from climate cabinet, freezer containers and low-reflection anechoic chamber, tests on six-axis robots and other torsion machines through test rigs for dynamic simulations (bending cycle, etc.) up to external test facility for long energy chain® travel.

Over 10,000 tests annually in the igus® technology centerEvery year we conduct more than 10,000 tests in the in-house technology center. The trend is growing. In addition to 7,500 tests with polymer plain bearings, spherical plain bearings, ball bearings and linear plain bearings, there are around 3,000 energy chain® tests plus 400 cable tests (1,000 different types). Focus of extensive tests are service life, push and pull forces, friction coefficients, wear, drive forces/energy efficiency and abrasion under the most varied speeds and loads as well as factors such as dirt, weather conditions, cold or bumps and impacts. The goal is to continuously push the application limits upwards. A long-term test – on service life – has recently been completed, which ran for over nine and a half years; 270 million double strokes were covered in this time. A total of about 9,000 test results are incorporated into the electronic databases every year. Moreover, we have numerous products inspected and certified (Fraunhofer, TÜV) by independent agencies for select properties (cleanroom compatibility, noise emissions, ESD, explosion protection, etc.).
