HELPING OUR CUSTOMERS DELIVER MORE FOR LESS

3CORPORATE PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

MORE OPERATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS MORE COST CONTROL MORE AGILITY MORE CONFIDENCE

For more than 30 years, IFS has delivered value-adding enterprise software to customers in the Aerospace and Defense (A&D) sector, a primary industry segment for IFS. IFS Applications™ supports full-spectrum enterprise, project and program-centric manufacturing and vendors serving the A&D sector. IFS Applications also supports heavy, complex, and component maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) for civil aviation, military and service providers, as well as line maintenance or at-platform/asset support. IFS underpins performance-based logistics (PBL) solutions to support, traditional, contracting for availability (CFA) through to full contracting for capability (CFC) solutions. IFS customers in A&D include BAE Systems, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, SAAB, GE Aviation, HAL, and Emirates.

IFS Applications is innovative enterprise asset management (EAM) and enterprise resource planning software (ERP), for the regulated A&D industry and markets where manufacturing, MRO, project, supply chain and service functionality are business and operationally critical. Solutions also support core enterprise functions for managing finance, inventory and human resources, including multi-site, multi-currency and multi-language. The product suite is based upon leading commercial, industry and open standards and a future proof platform. Our product is flexible and modular with enterprise breadth giving organizations the ability to quickly adapt and manage change.

Our focus is to enhance operational, industrial and service capability by meeting the rigorous demands of rapidly changing A&D requirements—enabling customers to operate with challenging budgets, increased regulatory requirements, increased operational tasking and the extended use of equipment.

In addition, IFS Enterprise Operational Intelligence™ ( IFS EOI™) offers an adaptive enterprise platform that takes operational intelligence to the next level—enabling complex defense organizations and defense industry to dynamically unlock value by actively managing performance. IFS EOI offers unique benefits to the A&D sector: delivering industry targeted, integrated, real-time intelligence (combining both decision, operational and business intelligence) to all levels of the organization: strategic, tactical and operational.

4 ENTERPRISE OPERATIONAL INTELLIGENCE

IN TODAY’S FAST CHANGING WORLD—BI IS NOT ENOUGH! The Aerospace and Defense (A&D) sector is driven by the need to balance budgets, profit, and operational performance and effect. There is a requirement to manage expectations of military or airline operators as well as industrial manufacturers and service pro-viders. The approach adopted needs to optimize a complex enterprise scenario of complex assets, expensive maintenance, and extended operational life—and do this cheaper, more effectively, making assets quicker to deploy, while also reducing the logistics overhead and footprint.

THE CHANGING WORLDMilitary doctrine has changed significantly over the past 20 years. The change of emphasis from static forces to force projection and expeditionary warfare as well as extended peacekeeping operations demands rapid deployment and flexibility to support a whole new operational and supply model for equipment acquisition and through-life management. Modern business models, such as contractor logistics support (CLS), performance-based logistics (PBL), contracting for availability (CfA), and product support agreement (PSA) programs have become the norm.

The same is true in the Civil Aviation sector. Modern airline fleet management demands both operational effectiveness and financial efficiency,

particularly with over 70% of the whole-life costs of complex equipment incurred during in-service support. Power-by-the-hour or total care type contracts have also become increasingly significant, making the availability of the aircraft, engines and aircraft components the primary driver for operational success, but this must be achieved within a robust financial structure, under increasing regulatory control and with the impact of globalization.

In response to these dramatic changes, organizations around the world are focused on capabilities that balance operational effectiveness and through-life costs. The level of innovation and sophistication of platforms requires specialist knowledge and support to achieve the levels of readiness, operational effectiveness and financial efficiency demanded driven by the mantra of ‘more for less’.

The key to success with all these solutions and initiatives within A&D is end-to-end access to timely, accurate and complete information in which commanders and aviation fleet planners can have absolute confidence through efficient and effective business processes operating with that data.

Technology changes, increased regulatory demands and the ‘Internet of Things’ in its various guises will lead to huge volumes of data that in itself will require systems and applications that can

IFS EOI is not easy to categorize. It is not workflow management (BPM) not business intelligence (BI) not operational intelligence (OI), it is all of these together, and perhaps more.”

objectives and context of an Aerospace & Defense organization and with its detailed end-to-end processes. Decisions and judgments rely on having a complete, timely picture—an enterprise picture—to support the decision-making process with dynamic monitoring as circumstances change. HOW DO WE GET THERE WITH IFS EOI?IFS Applications offers customers a range of tools to deliver visual insight, to understand enterprise performance and enable better decision making. IFS EOI forms part of the IFS visual insight strategy. The IFS EOI for Aerospace & Defense solution goes beyond the methods adopted by traditional business intelligence (BI) tools and enables a full 360 degree perspective of processes and performance. It provides senior management with the capability to review and orchestrate processes that align with their business strategy and drive these into end-users’ desktop functions. Avoiding strategy leakage. It also provides end-users with a complete understanding of which functions deliver real customer value, those that are less effective, and those which waste both time and resources. The solution is about executing the strategy, not having the best strategic story.

optimize and use that data to the benefit of all stakeholders. Solutions will be required to manage the security of supply, identify consumer patterns and ultimately provide all users with the empower-ment needed to make their own decisions. For large A&D organizations in Defense or Civil Aviation to be able to react at the pace that regulatory bodies, customers and consumers demand, requires immediate access to not just data but, information across the enterprise and in the context of the processes that underpin an organization—how effective is the whole enterprise operating (not the performance of a single department)? The requirement is to map, monitor and manage the strategy from an enterprise perspective. The focus needs to be on capabilities that balance operational effectiveness and through-life costs with meeting safety, corporate social responsibility and regulatory governance requirements.

THE DATA CHALLENGEThe key to enterprise success and the effectiveness of all the supporting solutions and initiatives is end-to-end access to timely, accurate and complete information in which managers and planners can have absolute confidence. But, alone this information is not enough. It needs to be aligned to strategic

DIFFERENT GOALS AND PRIORITIESNo two users have the same goals or priorities; with IFS EOI for Aerospace & Defense everyone gets just what they need for their individual role—no more, no less—through user defined ‘cockpits’ where the combined aspirations of individuals complement the overall strategy and business objectives. This is obvious but, unachievable in traditional BI solutions as there is no consideration and inherent understanding of all the processes and how each sub-process complements the others in order to drive business optimization.

MAP YOUR ENTERPRISE Develop a holistic, dynamic and graphical view of your unique value chain and define your business priorities. This top-down approach ensures that business performance is managed in context of the key business strategic objectives & processes, —preventing any surprises in performance.

MONITOR PERFORMANCE Process mapping is the key to performance enhancement and information management. IFS EOI for Aerospace & Defense monitors the performance of your business against your business goals, using the role based cockpits to monitor real time performance across the enterprise and throughout your end-to-end processes.

When a process is flagged red, then intuitively you are drawn to where in the process changes need to be made. Calculate the impact of raw material price or quality changes on your business’ bottom line in real-time. IFS EOI for Aerospace & Defense helps you direct your energies towards those tasks that matter the most to achieving your strategic goals.
