Be Filled With the

FOR A FE\\' ~rrXuTES. I want yOu to consider one of the outstanding commands in God's \\'ord-"Be filled with the Spirit." Ephesians 5:1,s. This is a much neglected message. yet one that is all-important to en:r)' helieving child of God. Charlc., G. pillTley once stated: "It dishonors Christ and weakens the church when helievers ;"Ire not filled \\'ith the Spirit."

There arc three important reasons why Christians should he haptized and filled with the 1 To1y Spirit: ( 1) They need it. (2) It is a plain, positiv(, com­mand frOI11 their Father and they must obey. (3) It is God's provision.

The need is summed I1p in the one word "power." Christians need power for two thIngs: for Christian h\"ing. and for Christian service.

Power for Christian Living

It is one thing to he born agailJ by the Holy Spirit. It is f]lIitc another thing to be kept by the power of God, the Holy Spirit. To be born reql1irc~ only a mOlllent of time, To he kept lw the power of God reql1ires the remainder of one's lire, God has pro"jded for both in ,he suhstitn[ionan' WOrk of the Lord Jesus, li enee thc'Spirit-fille(\ life is the normal Chri"lian life, and the per~OJl who is not filled with and controlled bv the Spirit is not living and C;}I1110t Ih;c the real Chri stian life sl1ch as God de­mands and expects,

The last two days we tra\'c1cd on horses over very torturous mountain trails. Th(' least little misstcp \\'ould ha\'e sent liS crashing on the rocks in the canyons far below.
