Ultimate Benefits:- Creation of Irrigation potential of 40,000 Ha in Bishnupur and Imphal west Districts by lifting 600 cusecs of water from the canal of Loktak Hydro Electric Project.

Present Status :-In operation with irrigation potential of 2050ha in Bishnupur District.

By the end of VIIth 5 year plan Irrigation potential of 59,000 Ha. was created with utilisation of 49200 Ha.By end of VIIIth 5 year plan Irrigation potential sharply declined to 24,150 Ha with utilisation of 16,780 Ha for reasons mentioned below:-

• Human encroachment, siltation of canal beds and damage of structures.

• Restriction in command area for Loktak Lift irrigation, Sekmai Barrage, Imphal Barrage due to inundation of the periphery of Loktak lake

Present Irrigation Potentials:1. Completed Projects:- 6,580 Ha

2. Ongoing Projects :- 24,861 HaTotal :- 31,441 Ha

• IFCD to take up Extension, Renovation and mordanisation (ERM) Projects of the Completed Projects for the restoration of the ultimate Potentials

• However, the schemes could not be taken up properly due to paucity of funds up to the end of the Xth Plan.

• At present there is provision of Rs. 2 crore for maintenance of completed projects and proposal of Rs. 8 crore under the XIIIth Finance Commission for 3 completed projects viz., Imphal Barrage, Sekmai Barrage and Khoupum Dam Project.

• ERM Schemes for Singda Dam and Loktak Lift Irrigation Project is under preparation with consultation with North Eastern Regional Institute of Water and Land Management (NERIWALM), Tezpur.

• The Projects are completed with major contributions from the District Authorities at the time of Land Compensation, disputes and Law and Order Problem and other related significant contributions have been received from the respective District Authorities constantly as and when required.
