    File extension: .dfc

Function: describe the structure and oranisation of data Data-related concepts: Records, Items, Values label

    2. Data Entry Form

Allow to create, use data dictionary, verify data entry form

Write a logic programme to examine the constraint btw variables &skips.

Used by data entry officials to input data.

Utilize tools to create forms, amend labels, add boxes, text and

    Record

Record verification (by default, CSPro creates test record)

A data dictionary contains records (each record is equivalent

    to a questionnaire)

These records share the same record questionnaire code. Each record may appear once or more in the questionnaire

Each record contains items (equivalent to one question in the

    questionnaire)

Items (Variables) Start: define the start of an item, CSPro automatically generates

the item by combining with length (len) of the previous item to

    define the following item.

Len: The length of decimal value to be inputted by the keyboard (including

    negative

Alpha: contains all characters in the keyboard Dec: how many numeric characters after decimal

    Dec Char: receive 2 values

Yes: receive decimal values No: receive integral values

When you finish adding all items. Next, add values for item.

Values are options for answer in the questionnaire.

    Ex. Q5: Gender: 1 Male 2 Female.

In this case, values of item are 1 and 2. Male and Female arelabels of item values.

Value of Items (cont.) Characteristics of Value Set: Value label: describe values of the item. This coincides with

    the item label by default

Value Set Name: the only one name automatically created, combining with item name presented (see picture)

Value Label: describe value that the item receives.

1, what the label describes for value 1)

    PressEsc

The value of an item depends on the type of that item.

The example hereafter shows discrete variables (values in order)

Value of Items (cont.) Missing values and null values are presented coincidentally

with Enter. These values are used in case respondents did not

    answer the question.

    25/47

    Value of Items (cont.)

For continuous variable (respondents fill in the

questionnaire, such as weight, height, income), one

of the values should be not applicable (NA), so that

when respondents donot answer the question, dataentry officials can skip bying pressing Enter.

Why there exists the value Missing?

The reason is that if inputting value missing (e.g.=9), it is easily to mislead by identifying 9 = VND 9

mil/month. These values donot have labels to describe

    (Value Label left blank)

Value of Items (cont.) For a continuous variable with clearly defined range, in order

to limit the data entry, input outside of the value range of that

    variable.

Ex. The variable Year of birth has values ranging from 1920

to 2005 for investors in the stock exchange market in Vietnam.
