Ever been guilty of these?

1. You let someone else in your life

take care of the money and make

financial decisions for you – maybe your

partner, or spouse or even a parent.

2. You believe you are no good

with money and you tell yourself this

on a regular basis – in fact, you might be

really hard on yourself and say things like

'I'm a terrible money manager' and really

believe it.

3. You often feel vague and foggy when it comes to money and all things

financial.

4. If you are in business, your

finances are your least favourite thing –

you'll do any other task before you sit

down to do the monthly report, your bank

reconciliation and lodge your quarterly

returns.

5. If you are a professional in paid

employment, having a savings or a

spending budget and keeping to it feels

sooooo constraining it's about on a par

with getting root canal or a mammogram!

While money remains outside your

focus and power, it's like everything

to do with your money is in a locked

room – you can’t change what's

happening or the decisions that are

being made and so, you can’t

influence what the outcomes are.

In terms of cost, that may

be in the hundreds, or even

thousands of dollars you are

either:

1. paying out unnecessarily

or

2. not bringing in.

Here's where this Mistake of continuing to

be vague and give your power away around

First, I'm going to teach you

the Money Manager

Superhero Stance.

This might sound a little strange but

studies have shown that body

language shapes who we are, and

how we stand and move can

radically affect how we feel and how

others see us.

In a study of people speaking

publicly, half the group practiced a

Superhero pose before they went

on stage.

Those that did the stance were

thought by the audience to be more

captivating and confident

presenters after just a few

minutes of the high power

poses.

Do this cycle 5 times and notice how

you feel and if anything changes as a result of doing the Superhero Stance.

Step #2

Get intimate with your spend

Now it’s time to get intimate with your money,

in particular your spending.

And lastly, list all your weekly

expenses, such as food and public

transport, petrol and parking for work,

maybe you have a mortgage and pay

that weekly.

It's important to get all your expenses –

yes, I mean everything including the

coffee you get at your favourite cafe

each morning.

Write it all down and now work out

what it costs you to live each month...

So for each annual expense, divide

that no. by 12 and add it to the list. For

each weekly expense, times by 52 and

divide by 12 to get a monthly figure and

add that to your list.

Now add up all the numbers and

get Your Monthly Spend.

Set aside 30 minutes today to

make a list of all your recurring

expenses over the year. You may

need to grab bank statements and

copies of past bills to do this.

To help you, I've made a checklist

and calculations template.

Start with yearly expenses.

Make sure you include

business and personal items - like

car insurance or professional

memberships.

Write the expense and the

amount.

Next list all your monthly

expenses – like your phone and

Internet, health insurance, maybe

credit card debt if you have that.

Reduce & eliminate expenses

Let’s look out where you can save money

by reducing or eliminating spending.

Compare insurance

company prices for:

Health

Travel

Business

Car

Shop around for cheaper

mobile and internet service

providers – check your plan

Renegotiate rent / mortgage

repayments

Does paying weekly make

it cheaper?

Cancel unnecessary /

redundant memberships &

subscriptions

I did this activity a while back and

found by adjusting my health

insurance, cancelling some

membership subscriptions I didn't

use any more and rejigging my

home loan set up, I reduced my

monthly living costs by a whopping

$1,100 per month! That's more

than $12,000 over the year.

And in terms of income, that was

more than $16 grand in revenue I

didn't have to earn and still have

exactly the same standard of living

and spend power! By the way, If

you're wondering why $16 grand, I

pay 37c in the dollar tax, so that's

the before tax figure to have

$12,000 in my hand to spend.

Switch bills to paying

Clear out your closet and

take what you don’t need to

Cut back on take-

due date to avoid late fees
