and proud of my student life, most importantly time spent in UET Lahore.

METEORIET: What were the biggest problems you faced during

your student life?

Dr. Asif Ali Qaiser: Biggest problem in educational life were lack of

guidance specially career orientation, advices and suggestion which

might greatly help in my higher studies.

METEORIET: Why did you choose the teaching profession?

Dr. Asif Ali Qaiser: I choose research never teaching profession,

teaching is a necessary outcome of research. It is a trickle down of

knowledge that a person get in research.

METEORIET: What has been the biggest accomplishment in your

career?

Dr. Asif Ali Qaiser: My publication, understanding of my area and a

good number of quality publication in international journals are the

biggest achievement of my life.

METEORIET: What is the most important thing you learned

during your teaching career?

Dr. Asif Ali Qaiser: Organization of teaching stuff, preparation of

lectures and comprehension of specified topics are the most important

tools which a teacher is required to consider while teaching.

METEORIET: How do you implement career education concepts

in this department?

Dr. Asif Ali Qaiser: I always intended to incorporate industrial

collaboration, we are already going for a joint projects. When you grow

with an industry you can assess and observe life ahead in future, not

only for educational sake, industrial exposure should be purpose

oriented and purpose is to learn industrial culture, knowhow and norms

to serve industry efficiently.

METEORIET: Have you taken any steps to ensure internship and

job opportunities to the bright students?

Dr. Asif Ali Qaiser: Many times, we actually offer 100% internship to

final year and half of 3rd year students go on internship ever year. We

have many opportunities, we remain in contact with industry, we have

introduced a feedback system to get information how the students are

performing in that industry. This department is among very few

departments which have nice system of internship.

METEORIET: What are some factors that you feel are most

important in motivating teachers to do the best work?

Dr. Asif Ali Qaiser: It’s you (students), if you are hardworking and

punctual then everything is good. This is the main inspiration which

you can give.

METEORIET: What major changes you have brought to this

department after getting this position?

Dr. Asif Ali Qaiser: Polymer is a branch of material which is new

so understanding of polymer their application, development

through research and thorough knowledge, I think I have

contributed a lot to bring a polymer culture to this department.

METEORIET: What strengths would you bring to this

department in near future?

Dr. Asif Ali Qaiser: There are many aspects, we have clear cut mission.

The main focus are to strengthen industrial relationship, academic

research culture, involve myself in that academic research, industrial

research and collaboration.

IET UET Chapter Office Address: 1st Floor Department of Electrical Engineering,

UET Lahore.

METEORIET: What type of supports and resources are

available for student research?

Dr. Asif Ali Qaiser: We offer opportunities to our undergraduate

7th semester students to carry out research projects, their

involvement isn’t up to research assistant, they plan their project,

review the literature and then make the research strategy so they

work as a full flag researcher, 3rd year students are also being

involved but we have to see whether they have got enough

knowledge and training and they work as a research assistant.

Polymer has a rich laboratories and expertise, Faculties are very

strong, young and out of 9th faculty members, 7th are PhD.

METEORIET: What principles do you use to motivate students?

Dr. Asif Ali Qaiser: I always strive for our students, first principle is

setting up your example, I said to my faculties they are vivid example

to their (students) career, sometimes I talk to students about their

background, there time spending here, there future time they are going

to spend, so I tried a lot at various levels various modes to motivate

students.

METEORIET: What should be the characteristics of a good

engineer? Dr. Asif Ali Qaiser: First thing is a good engineer should be a true

professional, a man of a commitment, punctual and hardworking

personality. Knowledge and expertise, these comes at the second level.

METEORIET: How UET education system get more better?

Dr. Asif Ali Qaiser: Now a days we talk about OBE (outcome based

Education) system, we need to be able to implement it in true spirit and

true sense to change the culture then we will see a change in education

system.

METEORIET: What are your views about the moral values of

Uetians?

Dr. Asif Ali Qaiser: Honestly speaking I am not much appreciated and

satisfied at all. I am not talking about basic moral values, they are good.

I am talking about hard work, punctuality, keenness towards studies

and sense of involvement are lack in Uetians. These bunch of students

should realize they are getting subsidized (Government funded)

education. It isn’t free education, government is investing a lot in this

university. Secondly we have plenty resources to compare UET,

faculty wise, lab resources, building, hostel facilities wise. UET is still

at its best position to rest of universities. So they should realize and get

maximum out of it, so sense of realization and involvement is required.

METEORIET: What are your advices to the students? Dr. Asif Ali Qaiser: The world is becoming more and more

competitive day by day, now degree and the name of university can’t

help you, so you should stand on your feet by your own, it means

getting more confidence of knowledge, hard work and involvement.

METEORIET: What do you think is the greatest challenge facing

an engineering students in these days? Dr. Asif Ali Qaiser: There are two aspects, one is industries scenario,

our industries are not competitive, quality conscious, energy efficient

and are not on strong technical footing to let many aspects in industries

so the need for an engineer as an employ in industry is not so strong,

so unemployment is one of the issue, but here is another aspect as you

work for industry first you have to true yourself to deliver something

good to industry. Secondly competition is the biggest challenge,

competition in seeking education and employment.

METEORIET: Does GPA matter or not?

Dr. Asif Ali Qaiser: For an industrialist it just tells the level of the hard

work which he/she has put in studies so he can trust this person.

METEORIET: What is your comment about IET Documentation

Team? Dr. Asif Ali Qaiser: It is a good effort, when you hear my words and

speak to other it verily has a great impact. So I appreciate it. It is one

of best way to convey inspirational words of teachers to students.

The End.
