Ratnayake Visits Qatar – Sept’2017
IESL President (Elect) Professor (Mrs.) Niranjanie Ratnayake arrived Qatar on 02, September 2017. She
was present as an observer from IESL headquarters for the Chartered engineering professional review B
Paper Exam whilst the Chairmen CEng. Jagath Gunasekara, Vice Chairman Eng. Kamil Ariff and CEng.
Geethananda De Silva from IESL Qatar Chapter conducted the examination and provided necessary
supervision.
At Hamad International Airport, Doha Qatar, Professor Niranjanie Ratnayake received warm welcome
from IESL Qatar Chapter representatives.
On the same day evening at Mercury Grand Hotel, Doha Professor Niranjanie Ratnayake had discussion
with IESL Qatar Chapter engineers. Addressing the gathering Professor Niranjanie Ratnayake appreciated
IESL Qatar Chapter EXCO team and praised about the activities which have been done in past 9 months.
During the discussion, IESL Qatar Chapter engineers highlighted that most of their engineers are currently
working in International engineering organizations henceforth, they have exposure to latest engineering
concepts. So that they requested IESL President (Elect) to introduce secure methodology for validation of
their Qatar working experiences to Chartered engineering process. Professor Niranjanie Ratnayake
informed that she would discuss the matter with IESL representatives and assured to give favorable reply
near future.
To commemorate the event, on behalf of IESL Qatar Chapter, Chairman Jagath Gunasekara offered a
souvenir to Professor Niranjanie Ratnayake.
Eventually, IESL Qatar Chapter hosted a dinner Professor (Mrs.) Niranjanie Ratnayake.
Then following day B paper was conducted for IESL Qatar Chapter engineers.

During Professor (Mrs.) Niranjanie Ratnayake’s stay, she also visited a few ongoing projects in Qatar along
with IESL Qatar Chapter members who are responsible for delivering the project in the capacity of Project
/Design Engineers, QA/QC Engineer and Project / Construction Managers.
She visited few Highway Projects, Hamad International Airport and some infrastructure Development
Projects.

Project # 2: NDIA – New Doha International Airport Project
NDIA Project - The airport covers a land area in excess 22 km and handles around 50 million passengers, 2 million tons of cargo, and 320,000 aircraft landings and takeoffs each year.
