Lambda Chi AgainTakes First Place

In ill Grand Prix

Chi Zeta swept to first place onMay 14 in the annual Illini GrandPrix. The race is held on a 2.2 milecourse winding through the campus. Forty laps are run for a totalof 88 miles in all.

After slipping to second placelast year following a win the yearbefore, we roared back to lead allthe way in this year's race withSigma Chi coming in second twolaps behind.

Following the race, a speed lapis held to determine the fastestbike rider. Duane Lempke set anew record of 5:11 in making theday a clean sweep for LambdaChi. Duane-also set a new recordof 5:10 for the first lap of the race.

Enrollment Boom MakingHousing Shortage

For the first time in many yearsthere is a critical housing shortage on the U of I campus for menas well as women according toProvost Lyle H. Lanier.

Lanier said that the 1961 predicted enrollment of 22,500 students on the Champaigii-Urbanacampus will be reached this fall, instead of a year from now.

At the end of July the University had issued permits to enterthe U of I to 700 students over andabove the existing housing facilities of the University owned dormitories and newly constructedMen's Residence Halls. These permits were issued in anticipation ofvacancies created by students deciding at the last minute not toattend Illinois.

Lack of residence facilities hasprevented the University from issuing permits to enter for womensince July 11.

In order to meet the increasingtide of incoming freshmen, severalfraternities at Illinois, notablySigma Chi, Phi Gamma Delta, Alpha Tau Omega, Acacia, Phi Sigma Kappa and l?hi Kappa Sigma, have constructed sizable additionsto their chapter houses during thepast few years.

Several other fraternities have

the fund-raising operations underway to also begin the constructionof new additions.

Alumni, How Aboui Hearing From You?THE CHI ZETAGRAM depends in a large measure for its

news of the activities of its alumni members scattered allover the United States on these very alumni themselves . . .because you know we just can't ask each one personally, although we would like to, what he is doing, where he is livingand get other interesting bits of information to pass on to yourclassmates and the fellows you knew in the house during thosewonderful undergraduate days.
