1.BE REMINDED OF RESOURCES• School-wide e-mails• Social media from the school• Announcements at the start of class• Admissions sales presentations• Orientations prior to being admitted• Annual publications• Alumni magazines• At school athletic events (jumbotrons)• On back of athletic rosters• In dorms• By the cafeteria• At the Mail center• By community bathrooms• At the library and the gymnasium• Inside or outside school transportation

1.BE ATTRACTED TO USING RESOURCES

• Free food events with meet with your resource representative from XYZ as the focal point

• Prize give-a-ways with the meet with your resource representative from XYZ

as the focal point. (How many can you meet with over the week? Use a punch card)

• Contests among school groups (fraternities, sororities, honor societies, swim club, athletic teams, etc.) with the winning group who has the most contact or greater percentage of visits to the resources getting the coveted “something” award or money toward one of their events or travel.

• Scavenger Hunt of find and meet with the resources. Have categories of individuals, teams, year groups, majors who get the most contacts with resources win money or prizes or coveted parking, or free lunch etc..(this makes it attractive because your peer groups will also find it is important, and this reduces pressure to be with friends and not act on your own behalf)

3. BE MADE TO FEEL AS THOUGH YOU ARE WELCOME TO HAVE DIALOG

• Teachers, Advisors, Administration take 5 minutes of every class to talk about life, and decisions, and things that worked for them, and mistakes they made, and things they wished they had done differently, and lessons learned (as they also read the announcements about where resources can be found)

• Once a month the class can take 15 minutes so everyone can talk about the pressures, the insecurities, what their hopes and dreams are – this allows others to empathize, brainstorm, network, problem solve.

• Teachers will also stay 15 minutes after every class (schedules need to be set up for this) so they are available to talk with students – and then schedule times where they can go into further depth at an appointment.

5. DEFINING LIFECYCLE OF TOUCHPOINTS IN YOUR EDUCATION in the sense of here is and this is what you can do at each of these points in time. (Prior to admission, first quarter of freshman year, second quarter of freshman year….prior to graduation.)

Each of these touch points will be a requirement and must be signed of by an advisor prior to moving up a level and graduating.• Orientation to multiple schools prior to choosing the one.• Mandatory check-ins twice a semester with advisor• Taking at least one interest inventory early on (confirmation)• Peer mentoring during first year• Listening to different club propaganda prior to first day of school• Trying at least two internships during the four years• Using job studies as a way to test interest in subject and write

about it• Trying at least two job shadowing experiences between your

sophomore and junior years. (affirmation)• Listening to people who have changed majors mid-stream so that

one knows it can be done and you will still be successful (excitement, anticipation)

• Meeting with alumni, career services• Having a resume prepared and turned in before you receive your

diploma

TOUCH POINTS SIGN OFF

With each of these touch points offering mandatory markers, choice markers and finished products the student will move from unsure to sure footed knowing they have both education and job experience and they are in the field the want to be as they step off the stage with their diploma

“I have so much to do, I need to earn money, I want to hang with my friends…” moves to:

“All my friends are going, I might as well. Or I might win a prize or cash or reduce my travel expenses. Or my fraternity needs to beat those jocks.”

10

ATTRACTION, FREE PRIZES & FOOD EVENTS

In the end, everyone wins…because now they have tools in their pocket to propel them forward.

I don’t know what I want to do. I have nothing to share. I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. When I do, I’ll go talk with someone.

A V A I L A B L E & O P E N M E N T O R S

I remember when I took my first class… Boy did I make a huge mistake… I never thought I would like…. I was complimented on my work… That person changed my life…

11

Meeting someone who has felt the way you feel, has made mistakes and survived, who has tried things and succeeded lets each of us know there is no separation and we each have a contribution and we don’t have to know everything overnight. Each experience brings us closer to what we want.
