    together for an instant display.

    TRY TRADITIONAL BAKING

    Lifes sweeter with sourdough, says

the Real Bread Campaign and, for

    this years Sourdough September, itll

    be organising tastings, classes and

sourdough starter swap meets to get

you baking. Go along to taste the real

stuff so much better than the

    supermarket lookalikes. Find local

    events, recipes and more at

    realbreadcampaign.org.

A ll credit to my Oldest Daughter for

this one. Shes a determined girl,

never one to let tough times, a lack

of cash or a catalogue of work and domestic

setbacks put her off achieving her goals.

But not so long ago, even she hit a bit of

a brick wall when she felt she was getting

nowhere in life. What turned it all around

for her was uncovering a theory that

breaking big plans into three-month chunks

    makes everything much more manageable.

    By setting three-month resolutions, instead

of New Year ones, you aim for smaller, less

daunting, goals that eventually add up

to a big change in your life.

I was a bit sceptical at frst, but now Ive

really embraced the idea. I love my home,

but at times running it feels like painting

the Forth Bridge a huge job that never

ends. Every now and then I have a meltdown

and feel that it would be easier to move

(a caravan or canal boat seems quite

tempting) than tackle the long list of to dos

Plan a micro yearMake resolutions every three months, not

every year, and transform your world

    Isobel McKenzie-Price,

    Editorial Director

that haunts me. But break it into smaller

chunks and it seems a lot more doable.

So my autumn resolutions are: get a

plumber to fx the leaky loo/disintegrating

    plaster in the downstairs shower room;

    sort and throw away my old paperwork;

build an escape-proof run for the tortoise

(dont ask). That should get me to the end

of November, and the next set of goals.

I cant use the excuse that its all too

much because, really, one task a month

isnt a mountain to climb. And 12 goals

accomplished in a year would really make

a big difference to our lives, come next

September. So Im a convert, too, now less

is more, small is beautiful and little things

can end up meaning a lot. Micro years are

    the way forward happy planning
