Easy to Use, Correct and Complete Solution
Distinctive features of composite design module are completeness, comprehensiveness. Design methods fully comply
with complex Eurocode and SIA code requirements. At the same time the solution is easy to use and effective for daily
needs of industry professionals. Fast and simple input is done with help of specialized wizard. All data related to the analysis
of construction stages is generated automatically and they are presented in terms well known to the engineers, such as load
cases, combinations etc. Therefore they need not to adapt their workflow and logic to the complex method of analysis.
The objective was to provide correct and complete solution & make it easy. So the program is focused, simple, and fast tool
rather than generic and complicated puzzle.

The definition of tendon geometry related to the shape of a designed structure can be a difficult design step
especially in case of curved structures. IDEA StatiCa Prestressing provides for the ‘uncoiling of the beam’
and simplifies this step – plus, you work in 2D and you make a 3D structure.
3D problem
By uncoiling the beam in the plan we simplify the problem to 2D geometry. Consequently the beam appears
straight in XY and XZ planes and the definition of tendon geometry is no longer a challenging task.
Uncoiling
The next step can be a complex job, which is the drawing of tendon shape in a slender prestressed beam!
It can be very challenging, because the beams are usually very long and shallow and one can hardly differentiate
the tendon’s details. That is why we offer the possibility to scale selected element vertically and horizontally.
Vertical and horizontal scaling
Tendon shape design
Scale your beam vertically to obtain clear drawing in comfortable arrangement.

Design of tendon shape in 2D environment
Once we have prepared the uncoiled and scaled view of the beam, we can generate a default shape of the tendon automatically,
also with respect to support positions. If needed, the tendon shape can be adapted to meet any user defined requirements.
The magnitude of prestressing effects is controlled by prestressing force. According to Prof. T.Y. Lin, a portion of an external
load has to be balanced by the equivalent load caused by prestressing. The Load balancing method can therefore by used
for preliminary design of the prestressing force.
• Default shapes of tendon with extensive predefined shapes parabolic/polygonal
• Import from TXT, DXF
• User-defined templates
A 3D tendon profile is obtained by composing XY and XZ plane projections. In addition, the tendon is wound up the beam
and the beam is coiled back to its real shape. In this way we obtain tendon geometry related to curved shapes of a designed
beam quickly with no additional effort! As it is documented here by the examples, the effort is reduced to the situation
of straight beams.
Calculation of prestressing loses
Needless to say, tendon losses are calculated and tendon stress is checked against Eurocode 2/SIA 262 requirements.
The analysis of short-term losses fully respects all angular changes of 3D tendon geometry.
Equivalent load determination and prestressing force design
The equivalent load caused by prestressing is calculated automatically. You can display it and illuminate the effects
of prestressing – upward load acting against dead load and live loads. In this way IDEA Prestressing allows the user
to recognize the active role of prestressing in the design.

Composite beam
IDEA StatiCa Beam is suitable for EN and SIA code design of various types of reinforced or prestressed beams with composite
slab, floors composed of prefabricated beams made subsequently monolithic by cast-in-place concrete, permanent shuttering
floor systems, composite bridge beams, and repair and strengthening old structures.
• Predefined types of construction stages
• Calculation of equivalent concrete age at prestressing
• Internal temporary supports with possibility of required
camber
• Time dependent analysis of creep, shrinkage, and ageing,
nonlinarity of creep
• Detailed design according to Eurcode and SIA 262
Continuous composite beams made from prefabricated elements made subsequently monolithic
Load history and its influence on redistribution of internal forces
Typical examples of composite concrete-to-concrete cross-sections
Time Dependent Analysis was extended to include the possibility of non-linear calculation of creep coefficient according
to EN 1992-1-1, provision 3.1.4 (4) in the case that compressive stress in the concrete at an age t0 exceeds the value
0.45 fck(t0). So far the value of concrete stress was limited to 0.45 fck(t0). This condition need not be satisfied after introducing
creep non-linearity, which increases economy of the design.
Construction stages and Time Dependent Analysis (TDA)
The changes of structural model, cross-sections or loads are modeled through construction stages. The effects of creep,
shrinkage, and ageing have significant impact on stress redistribution in time, and therefore to stress-state of cross-sections
at the moment of live load application. Those effects are calculated by IDEA StatiCa TDA module.

Equivalent concrete age
Demoulding of prefabricated elements and the transfer of prestressing are usually done at the age of concrete less than
one day. Provision 3.1.2 (5) of EN 1992-1-1 code does not provide the formula for strength of concrete younger than
3 days, what virtually makes the load application impossible unless the strength is based on tests. New functionality of IDEA
StatiCa enables the input of strength of concrete based on tests and the calculation of equivalent concrete age. The time
of corresponding construction stage is modified accordingly.
Presentation of internal forces in beam results
An improvement in understandability and lucidity of presentation of internal forces acting on composite
cross-sections was introduced in beam results. Total resultant of internal force can newly be presented
both to centroid of entire or current composite section. In the case of the option of current section,
internal forces will be related to the centroid of transformed cross-section determined from currently
existing phases of cross-section and their prestressing reinforcement. Change of modulus of elasticity
due to concrete aging is considered in all phases of cross-section.
Bridge Combinations acc. EN 1991-2
The introduction of load groups and the possibility of automatic
generation of bridge combinations significantly improve the effectiveness
and speed of design process, decrease its laboriousness, and help
the designer to cope with complexity of Eurocode. Both road and railway
load groups and combinations according to EN 1991-2, table 4.4a
and 6.11 can be defined, analyzed, and evaluated. Different values
of factors Ψ0, Ψ1 for different, but simultaneously acting loads are
respected according to tables of EN 1990/A1.

User-defined internal forces
The objective is to enable an effective way of the design of prestressed (bridge) slabs / slab and rib systems / grillages
in IDEA StatiCa.
Let us assume that bridge slab is modeled
by 2D elements in some 3D FEA system.
“Integration strips” are defined in order to
integrate 1D internal forces. Only moving loads
are defined and analyzed in 3D FEA system.
Prestressing losses and load equivalent
to the effects of prestressing are calculated.
Finite Element method in combination
with TDA analysis is used to obtain internal
forces caused by all loads except the effects
of moving loads.
The effects of moving loads are imported
into IDEA Prestressing. Load groups
for bridges, construction stages are defined
and tendons are designed.
All specialized features of IDEA StatiCa
are used – detail and comprehensive sectional
design, tendon stress check, export
of drawings into DXF, output report and bill
of material.

RCS – friendly, accurate and complete design of prestressed concrete sections.
Detailed stress response of prestressed composite section Equivalent thin-walled section for torsion check
Ultimate limit states• Stress-strain response of cross-section loaded by any combination of internal forces
• Strength in Flexure, Shear, Torsion
• Interaction of all components of internal forces (N, My, Mz, Vz, T)
• Shear resistance of sections with/without shear reinforcement, cracked/uncracked in bending
• Fatigue
• Shear in composite joint
• Both nominal curvature and nominal stiffness methods for the calculation of second order
effects
Serviceability limit states• Stress limitation,
• Crack width
• Decompression condition
• Brittle failure
Eurocode 2 method is not suitable for shear stress calculation in the joint in the case
of normal stress distributions, which are typical for concrete composite cross-section.
The method does not reflect stress redistribution in the cross-section caused
by consecutive construction, and differential creep and shrinkage of concrete of both
composite parts of cross-section.
Calculation method alternative to Eurocode 2 method was
proposed, tested, and implemented in the program.
Shear stress is calculated from difference of normal forces
acting on sectional components in two neighboring sections
of the element. Numerical studies were performed based
on real-life examples of composite beams. The method
and the results were presented on international
conferences and published in technical papers.
The history of construction and service stages influences the ultimate resistance and serviceability limit state of these
structures. Cross-sectional design according to EN and SIA codes have been adapted to comply with the fact that unequal
strains and stresses appear in two adjacent fibers of construction joint.

Transferring of data between different programs can be very time consuming process. IDEA StatiCa BIM reduces that work
to minimum and provides easy import of structure geometry, internal forces of all load cases, combinations and construction
stages from Midas Civil and GEN, AxisVM, Scia Engineer, RFEM, Nexis and others. Therefore IDEA StatiCa design modules
work with results calculated by other FEA programs directly.
Thanks to that engineer can design a simple beam in the same way as for example segments of the bridge constructed
by cantilever mehod.

HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT
We believe that every structural engineering office deserves a tailor-made solution composed of programs particular engineer
really needs rather than “all-in-one” package. We try to achieve this by constant improving of:
IDEA StatiCa BIM – a “bridge” between IDEA StatiCa and other programs. It instantly transfers model of internal forces
to IDEA StatiCa where required members/details can be designed.
www.ideastatica.com - our dedicated website where engineers can use IDEA StatiCa programs as a cloud-based service.
Get online, click, calculate – it is that easy. You only need a web-browser.
ABOUT US
We develop and sell software for structural engineers/consultants, construction authorities and all others who perform/
evaluate/use structural analysis and design of constructions and their members. Our development team researches, tests
and applies new methods of structural analysis. Based on it, we create IDEA StatiCa products – enabling engineers to work
faster and more accurately, construction companies to use optimal amount of material and construction authorities/checkers
to evaluate requirements of the national code quickly and thoroughly. For us, creating top-class software is a way to contribute
to making every new construction around the world safer and cheaper.
We started developing IDEA StatiCa® in 2010. This enabled us to build it using modern program architecture and innovative
IT technologies – multi-core and 64-bit processors, object databases, graphic modelers, internet applications, cloud
computing. This represents a generation leap compared to software developed 10 or 15 years ago, no matter how many
times were they upgraded.
FUN FACTS ABOUT IDEA RS
