PROBLEM STATEMENT

Mr. X, a busy and goal oriented business man

needs a mechanism to identify prospective employees (right candidates)

before actually getting to interviewing and hiring them

Page 3: Idea generation by sushma nair

CONSTRAINTS/PROMPTS TO GENERATE IDEAS

What are the most obvious solutions for this problem? (even things that you know already exist)

What can you add, remove or modify from those initial solutions?

How would a 5-year-old child solve the problem? How would you solve the problem if you had an

unlimited budget? How would you solve the problem without

spending any money? How would you solve this problem if you had

control over the laws of nature (think invisibility, teleportation, etc.)?

WHAT ARE THE MOST OBVIOUS SOLUTIONS FOR THIS PROBLEM? (EVEN THINGS THAT YOU KNOW ALREADY EXIST)

Most obvious solutions

Advertise vacancies in a

Newspaper

Hire a recruiter

Increase pay scale offer

Provide training to new recruits

Distribute workload among

existing staff

WHAT CAN YOU ADD, REMOVE OR MODIFY FROM THOSE INITIAL SOLUTIONS?

Additions to the initial solutions

Create a detailed job description so that roles and responsibilities are clear to candidates applying

for the job

Publish an advertisement on

employment websites

Ask referrals from professional

network

Identify work areas that are redundant and can be done by

using technology tools

HOW WOULD A 5-YEAR-OLD CHILD SOLVE THE PROBLEM?

Ask mommy to help find someone for Mr.X

Build a lego robot to help Mr.X Build a magic machine with

legos or draw a magi machine which will do all the work Mr.X assigns

Ask Mr. X to play with him so that he can have fun and be happy and once he is happy Mr. X can work more

Page 7: Idea generation by sushma nair

HOW WOULD YOU SOLVE THE PROBLEM IF YOU HAD AN UNLIMITED BUDGET?

Hold Campus interviews Hire a trainer and assign him to train new recruits Assign the trainer to train existing employees Offer paid internships Create a software which does all the admin and

accounting tasks automatically Hire the best recruit in the industry and offer the

highest payscale Publish ads in all leading newspapers and

employment websites Assign the contract of doing the first round of

interviews to a recruiting agency

UNLIMITED BUDGET….CONTD

Hire a secretary who will conduct the first round of interviews

Hire a supervisor who will manage the tasks of existing employees

Consult an HR & training expert to build a mechanism to increase productivity and efficiency of existing employees

Delegation of some responsibilities of Mr.X to existing staff so that he has more time for focusing on recruiting the right kind of employees

Create an ongoing training programme for existing employees to enhance their skills

Page 9: Idea generation by sushma nair

HOW WOULD YOU SOLVE THE PROBLEM WITHOUT SPENDING ANY MONEY?

Train an existing employee for the role

Use existing resources and divide tasks as per existing employees capabilities

Make use of freely available technology tools to automate admin tasks

Page 10: Idea generation by sushma nair

HOW WOULD YOU SOLVE THIS PROBLEM IF YOU HAD CONTROL OVER THE LAWS OF NATURE (THINK INVISIBILITY, TELEPORTATION, ETC.)?

Blue Sky

Speech to action based software that would take commands from

Mr.X and solve admin and accounting tasks on a case to case basis

Build a robot and programme it to do

all the tasks( advantage can

work 24x7)

Order a Genie to complete all the

tasks

Page 11: Idea generation by sushma nair

THE MOST PRACTICAL IDEA (ONE THAT COULD BE EASILY IMPLEMENTED)

Assign the contract of doing the first round of interviews to a recruiting agency As there are so many

recruiting agency if a detailed Job description was shared with the recruiting agency they would filter and send only eligible candidates for an interview to Mr. X

Page 12: Idea generation by sushma nair

THE MOST DISRUPTIVE IDEA (ONE THAT WOULD MAKE A HUGE IMPACT, REGARDLESS OF HOW FEASIBLE OR AFFORDABLE IT IS)

Build a robot and programme it to do all the tasks( advantage can work 24x7)

This may cost a whole lot and has its own risks like the programme may get corrupt and then if he robot performs any admin or accounting tasks he can cause errors and this will affect Mr. X ‘s business is a large scale

YOUR FAVORITE IDEA (ONE IDEA THAT YOU ARE EXCITED ABOUT FOR WHATEVER REASON... YOU DON’T HAVE TO JUSTIFY WHY)

Speech to action based software that would take commands from Mr.X and solve admin and accounting tasks on a case to case basis

This will help Mr. X to get his tasks done as per his requirements as and when he needs.
