ICS BANGKOK THAILAND

Dear ICS community,

It is a privilege to reflect back on all the good things that happened during the 2016-2017 school year and be reminded of how blessed we are as a school and community In the following pages, you will read about evidence that more than 1,000 ICS students are becoming Lifelong Learners, Discerning Thinkers, Competent Communicators, Quality Producers, Team Players, Responsible Citizens and Followers of Christ which are distinctive Expected School-wide Learning Results, or ESLRs You will also read about improvements to the school programs and facilities, and many other positive indicators about the health of ICS

I, however, want to highlight another indicator that I look at to determine the health of the school community, which is the staff longevity and turnover rate You will be pleased to know that ICS teachers and staff come to ICS and stay longer here than is the norm in schools in the United States and longer than most international schools Our foreign teachers stay on average of 5 9 years and all staff combined stay an average of 6 8 years This past school year, 93% of all staff chose to continue to serve at ICS I believe that this longevity results in a better education for our students, especially in an international school, because the teachers and staff have time to not only learn about the curriculum, culture, and the community of ICS, but to also become a meaningful part of improving all three

ICS teachers and staff stay because we believe in the mission of ICS and are willing to invest a significant part of our lives at ICS providing excellent education so students will learn to the best of their ability We do this because we love the students and the God who loves us

I often hear people say that there is a very positive feel about the school and that they hear good things about ICS This is not because of the facilities or curriculum; it is because ICS teachers and staff willingly invest in the lives of the students in and out of the classroom Seeing the accomplishments of our students and graduates confirm to us that the investment serving at ICS is worth it

Thanks for being a part of the ICS Community and making it a place where teachers, staff, students, and parents want to be

Sincerely,

Darren M Gentry

New Middle School PrincipalWe were ecstatic to bring back Mrs Karen Conwell to the ICS community this year She was a teacher at ICS over 10 years ago and a very influential one at that From the moment she left ICS, the ICS administration team knew that someday it would be a blessing to have her back at ICS in a position of leadership She possesses the gifts of organization, humility, endurance, and most importantly, she loves and cares deeply for students

Already, in just her short time back at ICS, she has done wonders in shaping such a positive, vibrant culture in the ICS Middle School She is an encouraging force to both the students under her care and the teachers she serves She is a big picture thinker and never loses sight of the details along the way We are so excited to see Karen play a huge role in helping ICS reach our vision, “to continuously excel as a Christ-centered learning community ” We are truly blessed to have her back here at ICS

Ms. Karen Conwell

New and NOTEWORTHY

CAF - The Community Arts Forum bridges the divide between the school art program and the greater ICS Community. The CAF not only provides a platform for the community to applaud the hard work of our art students, but it also facilitates working artists inside and outside the ICS community to directly invest in our students’ artistic development through inspiring art shows and artists’ talks.

GIN Conference - First international service-oriented trip in the Middle School.

Concerts and Performances - Our young talented musicians were able to perform in a number of concerts and performances throughout the year.

New AP Classes - AP Literature and AP Computer Science were wonderful additions to our educational program in the High School.

Community - Community building events such as parent classes, community sales, and other PTO organized events strengthen the ICS community.

ANNUAL REPORT 2016-2017 ICS BANGKOK THAILAND

Here at ICS, we strive not only to have a regular maintenance plan, but also to make capital improvements to both our facilities and property This past year we added a climbing wall, the renovation of elementary school classrooms, a newly remodeled strings room, new modular classroom furniture and the installation of the new 5-rai soccer complex

This year, the ICS student body reached an enrollment of 1,000+ students It was an exciting year to celebrate community with several fun activities including our first-ever community sports day which was organized by the Parent Teacher Organization

ANNUAL REPORT 2016-2017

Dear ICS family,

People often ask, “Who owns ICS?” ICS is legally owned by the ICS Educational Foundation, a non-profit organization established solely for the operating of ICS As a foundation, ICS is not owned by specific people but is led by a board that governs based on the values and vision that were originally established for it by the Christian community in Bangkok

We as the ICS Board see our role as stewards tasked with ensuring excellent results in the lives of ICS students, and we strive to continuously excel as a Christ-centered learning community Although we work behind the scenes to perpetuate and build upon the vision and mission of ICS, you will see our goals posted throughout the campus - for example, “The ICS Student is becoming a Discerning Thinker ” We establish governing policies and monitor school performance on a quarterly basis, and we produce a link between ICS and the Christian community in Bangkok for long term accountability in achieving the school’s goals

Like the ICS student body, the Board is diverse We come from various nations and occupations We are teachers, doctors, pastors, businessmen and non-governmental organization (NGO) workers We bring to the table a wide variety of experiences and perspectives, yet we speak with one voice Most of us are also mothers and fathers of ICS, having entrusted our own children into this school for many years All of us joyfully volunteer our time and talents to serve the ICS community

Our common passion for the ICS vision and mission motivates us, because our families and communities have been eternally impacted through involvement at ICS We hope yours are, too

Sincerely,ICS Board Members
