Investment Information
A market-cap-agnostic fund that follows the contrarian style of investing, this fund has delivered a sizeable outperformance of the benchmark overthe last three and five years. Having climbed to a four-star rating wayback in 2009, it has held on to a four-five-star rating for much of the periodsince then. The fund follows a value-and-contrarian investment style andidentifies stocks that have a high potential but are currently available ata discount to their inherent value. The parameters used to measure valueare P/BV, P/E and relative market capitalisation. As the opportunities inmid and small caps in the value space are higher, the fund tends tomaintain a 50-75 per cent weightage to mid and small caps. But the fundhas moved towards a higher large-cap tilt in the last one year, with a 60per cent weight to large caps in October. The fund's one-, three- and five-year returns are 9-14 percent points ahead of the benchmark. Contraryto the belief that the value style does not work in the Indian context, thisfund's returns since launch are at an impressive 24 per cent CAGR. Asa rare fund, it has seen its asset size burgeon to R10,000 crore plus thisyear. While its portfolio remains focused (just over 50 stocks), the sizeprobably explains the higher allocation to large-cap stocks lately. In aspace cluttered with growth style funds, this fund provides a greatalternative for those who like to avoid the herd.
Nifty 50
To invest in a well-diversifiedportfolio of value stocks (thosehaving attractive valuations inrelation to earnings or bookvalue or current and/or futuredividends).

Investment Information
This fund has the distinction of never falling below a four- to five-star ratingin the last ten years. It has beaten both its benchmark and the categoryaverage in every one of these years. In the last year or so, the fund hasinvested 83 to 90 per cent of its portfolio in large caps, with a mid-capallocation of 10-20 per cent. The mid-cap allocation is slightly ahead ofthat of its category. The fund is known to take correct tactical calls betweenmarket caps. It pegs sector weights to the BSE 200 index, only rarelyselecting stocks outside the index. On the basis of annualised three-, five-and seven-year returns, the fund has managed to beat its benchmark by5 percentage points and category by 4 percentage points. Goodperformance has led to the asset size hitting nearly R12,000 crore inrecent months, but given the large-cap tilt, this isn't a constraint toperformance. A steady management team has led to continuity of styleand market-cap bias. The fund can be counted upon for good participationin bull markets but is particularly adept at containing losses in downmarkets, be they 2008, 2011 or even the last one year. The large-cap tiltand the strong peg to benchmark have helped ensure that the fundcontains declines very well during bear phases. The direct plan, whichhas been available for three years now, is 1.1 percentage points aheadof the regular plan on the basis of annualised returns. This ia an easywinner over three different market cycles, backed by a stable managementteam, too.
Nifty 50
The Scheme aims to generatelong term growth of capital, through a portfolio with atarget allocation of 100%equity by aiming at being asdiversified across variousindustries and or sectors as itschosen benchmark index.
