Minobu-cho Nakatomi Washi no Sato papermaking village

Located by the clear waters of Fuji River, Nishijima's production

of traditional washi paper dates back to the Sengoku era

(1467-1615). The village boasts a washi workshop where visitors

can experience the charm of traditional Japanese papermaking.

One of the most popular papermaking activities is making a

lamp. Design an original lampshade from washi and once the

paper is dry take home a fully made lamp. No one else will have

one like it.
