The Internet of Everything: How technology can help expand business opportunity

“The state can often serve a very useful function as a convener of parties, and as a catalyst at the community level. Having the state take the lead early also helpsyou stay away from rural-urban antagonism,” says John Horrigan, currently a vice-president at the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies at the Washington,D.C.-based Media and Technology Institute, given the competing needs of urban andrural users.

Broadband has a major financial impact

The availability of broadband has a major impact on small business growth andprofitability. Businesses gain access to lower cost hosted services and tools, they gain acompetitive edge as well as exposure to a larger national and sometime internationalclientele. Therefore, broadband becomes a key factor in the socio-economic formulafor local business development.

David Deans | January 21, 2013 at 11:38 pm PST Cisco blog

The demand to connect continues to grow

The business impact of broadband is further complimented by the continued explosion ofonline users. Regardless of the category of device, users are getting online and using theinternet as an integral mix for their shopping, services, and daily 'hang out' spots. If a localbusiness is not online, then they'll eventually see a shift in demand from their establishments toa more online community...communities that might not cater to their local businesses andeconomy. The competitive landscape is no longer around the block, but around the globe.

Therefore, being online and catering to the needs of local businesses is central to survival of thegeneral community. That connection is a central part of the icXchange® platform that'sdesigned to provide efficient access and tools to a greater numbers of small businesses.

Part II: Bridging the gap with icXchange® technology

The icXchange® technology platform is a software-driven system designed to increase IP data efficiency thus allowing more devices or improved experience andservices over a connection. To accomplish maximum efficiency, these advanced software capabilities are included on ICC branded Ethernet Switches, EnterpriseWireless Solutions, and other IP data networking connectivity components.

icXchange® Connectivity

The new railroads of our day are not seen, but are highspeed wireless connections carrying Video, Voice, andData communication. If small businesses don't get onboard or can't effectively afford to get on the train, theymiss out on the growing opportunities that ensure localbusiness and community survival.

ICC's icXchange® enterprise wired and wirelessconnectivity solution provides communities with smallcitywide wireless mobility coverage. The system allowsoutdoor wireless bridging systems to connect longranges across the city, while also connecting into eachbuilding facility to provide in-building connectivity tosmall businesses. The system uses a single largerbroadband connection as a main point for onlineconnectivity. The subsequent city coverage connects toeach small business providing a lower cost option forthe whole community. Completely managed, the system helps the business community to better control their cost instead of facing constant and individualcable/dsl fee increases. The business community would also have access to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) to keep phone costs down.

The icXchange® solution balances network performance to ensure efficiency and advanced features. The system's advanced features such as Wireless IntrusionDetection Systems, Layer 3 Segmentation, Quality-of-Service, Remote Management, Private Cloud Wireless Configuration and Management, and many othersprovide the necessary feature set for a complete system from outside, front-of-store hotspot, to in-building high speed performance networking for morecomplex business requirements. There are multiple redundancy to ensure your small business is always connected.

icXchange® Flexibility

Designed to grow with a business, the icXchange® solution can start with the smallest of localbusinesses and as they grow, the system expands to fit their needs. The system enables thesmallest deli shop needing a hotspot to a medium business adding smart devices to increaseefficiency, to larger businesses needing to reduce cost for multi-location deployments.

The single system allows for local customers to be part of the same network. This means thatresidents can be on the same system at home, in the local coffee shop, butcher shop, lumberyard, etc. icXchange® allows for a completely separate network to support potential clients oflocal small businesses to be on the network while at home or being a patron of that smallbusiness. By tying the business and the customer together in this age of social media, itincreases business for the local SMB. It also means that customers will tend to stay closer tothe local small business due to ease of use, familiarity, and ability to have the same online searching they find at bigger competitors.
