The International Boethius Society CARMINA PHILOSOPHIAE RECEIVES $2000 GRANT SOCIETY NEWS: REPORT FROM IBS AT MLA 2005 IN WASHINGTON DC AND KALAMAZOO 2006 The International Boethius Society’s session at the Annual Meeting of the Modern Language Association in Washington DC, this past December was late in the schedule, but still enjoyed a lively conversation following the presentations. Many thanks to our panelists, Paul Edward Szarmach, of Western Michigan University, and Noel Harold Kaylor, Jr., of Troy University, and to Philip Edward Phillips, of Middle Tennessee State University, for presiding. Congratulations to them for a successful panel, and many thanks to all who attended. 763. The English Tradition of Boethius’ Consolation of Philosophy 1:45–3:00 p.m., Dupont, Washington Hilton Presiding: Philip Edward Phillips, Middle Tennessee State University. 1. “Alfred’s Translation of the Meters of Boethius,” Paul Edward Szarmach, Western Michigan University 2. “Queen Elizabeth I’s Translation of the Consolatio,” Noel Harold Kaylor, Jr., Troy University expresses its sincere appreciation to the Virginia Peck Trust Fund Committee and to the Department of English at MTSU for supporting the journal. We also wish to thank Dr. Philip Edward Phillips for his role in procuring this grant for the benefit of the Society and Boethius scholars everywhere. Some of the IBS officers also met during the MLA to discuss fundraising for the Society. Thanks to their efforts, we have two new membership categories, giving our members more opportunities to participate in the financial future of the Society. Our thanks to Paul Szarmach and Philip Edward Phillips for renewing as “Sustaining Members” and to Krista Twu for renewing as a “Contributing Member.” We hope that others will follow in their renewals next year.

Carmina Philosophiae 14 (2005)—our first“French Issue”—is almost ready to besent to press, and Volume 15 (2006) isshaping up. We need to continue ourefforts to ensure the publication of futurevolumes. The Society considers it apriority to increase the number ofinstitutional subscriptions to CarminaPhilosophiae to help raise revenues and toassure the strength and growth ofBoethius Studies.
