Installation and ConfigurationThe following section contains information that pertains to IBM Cognos TM1 9.5.1 installation
and configuration.
Opening Previous TM1 Databases in TM1 9.4Older TM1 databases are automatically converted to Unicode the first time you run them with the
new TM1 9.4 server. After a database is converted, it is not backward-compatible and cannot be
opened with non-9.4 TM1 servers.
Licensed Materials – Property of IBM5© Copyright IBM Corp. 2007, 2009.
Be sure to backup your existing TM1 databases before using them with the IBM Cognos TM1 9.4
release.
Upgrading to TM1 9.4/9.4.1 from Previous 9.x Versions of TM1TM1 9.4 (including 9.4.1) does not support automatic upgrading from a previous version of TM1.
If you are upgrading to TM1 9.4 from any other 9.x version, you must back up your previous TM1
database, uninstall the previous version, install TM1 9.4, then restore your database.
IMPORTANT:When installing a 32-bit version of TM1 9.4, the installation wizard will check for
the presence of a previous version of TM1 and prompt you to uninstall the previous version and
backup your database before installing TM1 9.4. When installing a 64-bit version of TM1 9.4, the
installation wizard automatically uninstalls any previous version of TM1 without prompting you
to uninstall and backup your database.
Upgrading from TM1 9.4 to TM1 9.4.1When upgrading from TM1 9.4 to TM1 9.4.1 on Windows Vista, you must perform a complete
uninstall of 9.4 before installing 9.4.1. If you perform a normal upgrade from the 9.4.1 installation
program, the upgrade appears to succeed but you will receive errors when attempting to run TM1
9.4.1.
This issue is specific to Windows Vista. You can use the Upgrade option on the TM1 9.4.1 install-
ation program when upgrading from 9.4 to 9.4.1 on other versions of Windows.
Choosing Simplified Chinese Language When Installing TM1 on a JapaneseWindows System
The installation will not continue if you choose Simplified Chinese as the language when installing
TM1 on a Japanese Windows system or on any other Windows system that has its system locale
set to Japanese.
Language Versions of Documentation and Installation HelpThe TM1 documentation and installation Help is available in English only for the initial release of
TM1 9.4.1. Translated documentation and installation help will be posted to the web and at a later
date.
Fonts and Images May Not Display Correctly with Some Display ResolutionsSome fonts and images in the TM1 Installation Wizard may not display correctly when installing
on a system with a high screen resolution of 1920 X 1200 with normal font size (96 DPI) or 1280
X 720 with large font size (120 DPI). The installation will still function, but as a workaround, you
can set your resolution to 1280 X 720 with normal font size (96 DPI) or lower.
Modifying the TM1 Web 9.4 InstallationAfter installing TM1Web 9.4, you cannot modify your installation using the ProgramMaintenance
option of the Installation Wizard because TM1 Web does not appear as an installed product
available for modification.
6 IBM Cognos TM1
Chapter 1: IBM Cognos TM1 Release Notes
Planning Sample Server Name Not Correct for an x64 TM1 ServerWhen installing the Planning Sample database for an x64 TM1 server, the server name is set to
Planning Sample x64. However, all sample data shipped with the Planning Sample database uses
the server name Planning Sample. Consequently, data will not display in any sample slices, Active
Forms, or Websheets.
To work around this issue, perform a custom install when installing the Planning Sample database
on x64 and set the server name to Planning Sample on the TM1 Server Configuration screen.
If you have already installed the Planning Sample x64 server, you can set ServerName=Planning
Sample in your Tm1s.cfg file to rename the server.
Default Installation Directory Incorrect for TM1WorkflowWeb Server on an x64System
When installing TM1 Workflow web server component on an x64 system, the default installation
directory for the server component is C:\Program Files (x86)\Applix. This is incorrect. You should
install the Workflow web server component to your TM1 Web installation directory, usually C:\
Inetpub\wwwroot\TM1Web. Tomodify theWorkflowweb server component installation directory:
Steps
1. On the Custom Setup screen of the TM1 Workflow installation wizard, expand the Server
Components group.
2. SelectWebServer Component.
3. Click the Change button and set the path to your TM1 Web installation directory.
4. Complete the Workflow installation wizard.
IIS Must Be Installed Before .NET FrameworkMicrosoft Internet Information Services (IIS) must be installed before installing the .NET 3.0
framework that is required for TM1 Web.
If you install the .NET 3.0 framework before installing IIS, the TM1Web installation will fail with
an ASPNET error.
Client Configuration When Installing TM1 x86 Version on x64 SystemWhen performing a Custom installation of the TM1 x86 version on an x64 system, the installation
program does not display any client configuration screens. Instead, the TM1 client is installed using
default configuration values.
You can modify the TM1p.ini file after installation to set client configuration values.
TM1 Workflow x64 Installation ProcedureYou must adhere to the following installation order when installing the x64 version of TM1
Workflow.
Release Notes 7
Chapter 1: IBM Cognos TM1 Release Notes
Installing Web Components Only
If you want to implement only the web components of TM1 Workflow, install the x64 version of
TM1 first, followed by the x64 version of Workflow.
Installing Both Web and Excel Components
If you want to perform a complete TM1 Workflow installation on x64, including both web com-
ponents and the Excel add-in, install the following items in order.
1. TM1 x64 version, full install
2. TM1 x86 version, Perspectives only
3. TM1 Workflow, x64 version
End-of-life StatementsThe following sections note TM1 platforms/features that are no longer supported in TM1 9.4 or
will not be supported in future releases.
HP-UX RISC Platform SupportThe TM1 9.4.x series will be the last versions of TM1 that support the HP-UX RISC platform.
Windows Itanium Platform SupportThe TM1 9.4.x series will be the last versions of TM1 that support the Windows Itanium platform.
TM1 In-Spreadsheet BrowserThe TM1 9.4.x series will be the last versions of TM1 that support the In-Spreadsheet Browser.
TM1 HTTP Proxy ConnectorThe TM1 HTTP Proxy Connector is no longer supported and the settings for this option have been
removed from the TM1 Options dialog box in TM1 Architect.
Other Platforms/ComponentsAdditionally, the following platforms and components are no longer supported in TM1 9.4:
● Windows 2000
● Excel 2000
● ODBO Support for SAP (TM1 Connector for SAP is supported in TM1 9.4)
New Features in TM1 9.4.1The following section contains late-breaking features added to TM1 9.4.1. For details on other
new features in this release, please refer to the IBM Cognos TM1 9.4.1 New Features Guide.
8 IBM Cognos TM1
Chapter 1: IBM Cognos TM1 Release Notes
Excel Function Support in Websheets - COUNTIF and SUMIFThe Excel functions COUNTIF and SUMIF are now supported in TM1 Websheets.
ClientPropertiesSyncInterval Server ParameterTM1 9.4.1 includes a new Tm1s.cfg server configuration parameter, ClientPropertiesSyncInterval.
This parameter lets you define the frequency (in seconds) at which client properties are updated in
the }ClientProperties control cube.
Setting ClientPropertiesSyncIntervalClientPropertiesSyncInterval is not included as part of a standard the Tm1s.cfg file. You must edit
the Tm1s.cfg file and manually add the parameter.
Steps
1. Open the Tm1s.cgf file in a text editor.
2. Add the ClientPropertiesSyncInterval parameter to the file and set at the desired interval. For
example, to update properties in the }ClientProperties control cube every 300 seconds (five
minutes), add the line ClientPropertiesSyncInterval=300 to the Tm1s.cfg file.
3. Save and then close the Tm1s.cgf file.
ClientPropertiesSyncInterval is a dynamic configuration parameter. It is applied as soon as it
is added to the Tm1s.cfg file; there is no need to restart the TM1 server.
Changes in Functionality and Behavior between TM1 9.4andTM1 9.4.1
The following items describe functionality/behavior changes between TM1 9.4 and TM1 9.4.1.
These changes may require modifications to existing models/worksheets when upgrading from 9.4
to 9.4.1.
Active Forms
Validation Lists in Active Forms
As of TM1 9.4.1, you can include validation lists as part of a format definition. If a format definition
includes a validation list, the validation list will be reproduced in all rows in the Active Form that
are identified by that format definition. This behavior is a departure from TM1 9.4, where validation
lists could be set only in the master row (first data row) of an Active Form.
In 9.4.1, if the master row of an Active Form includes a validation list and the format definition
that applies to the master row also includes a validation list, the validation list in the format defin-
ition overwrites the validation list in the master row. If the master row includes a validation list,
but the format definition that applies to the master row does not include a validation list, the valid-ation list in the master row will be discarded.
Release Notes 9
Chapter 1: IBM Cognos TM1 Release Notes
In TM1 9.4.1, all validation lists used in Active Forms should be defined in the format range. If
you have Active Forms that were developed in previous versions of TM1, you must modify them
to follow this convention.
Workbook Recalculation Variable TM1REBUILDOPTIONA new calculation model was introduced in TM1 9.4 which forced an automatic recalculation of
all sheets in a workbook, even when the Excel calculation mode was set to Manual. The new model
forced a recalculation upon initial opening of any workbook, upon element selection via a SUBMN
formula, or upon any server connect event.
TM1 9.4.1 includes a new workbook name variable, TM1REBUILDOPTION, which lets you
manage calculation in workbooks containing TM1 slices and Active Forms. When you create a
slice or Active Form in TM1 9.4.1, the TM1REBUILDOPTION name is automatically created in
the corresponding Excel workbook and set to 1, indicating that all worksheets in the current
workbook should be rebuilt and recalculated when a TM1 server connect event occurs.
If TM1REBUILDOPTION is present in a workbook and set to 0, or if TM1REBUILDOPTION is
not present in a workbook, worksheets are not rebuilt/recalculated when a server connect event
occurs.
Modifying the TM1REBUILDOPTION Setting
If you do not want workbooks created with TM1 9.4.1 to automatically rebuild and recalculate
all slices and Active Forms when a server connect event occurs, you can set the TM1REBUILDOP-
TION value to 0.
Steps
1. In Excel, click Insert, Name, Define.
2. In the Define Name dialog box, select TM1REBUILDOPTION.
3. Set the value in the Refers to box to =0.
4. Click OK.
Using TM1REBUILDOPTION in Workbooks Created in Previous Versions of TM1
Workbooks created prior to TM1 9.4.1 do not include the TM1REBUILDOPTION workbook
name variable. As noted above, when the TM1REBUILDOPTION is not present in a workbook,
worksheets are not rebuilt/recalculated when a server connect event occurs.
You must add the TM1REBUILDOPTION name to any workbook created in a previous version
of TM1 that includes an Active Form to force rebuild/recalculation upon a server connect event. If
you do not add the TM1REBUILDOPTION name, you must manually rebuild (ALT + F9) the
Active Form to activate the view and allow full functionality of the Active Form.
Steps
1. In Excel, click Insert, Name, Define.
2. In the Define Name dialog box, enter TM1REBUILDOPTION.
10 IBM Cognos TM1

3. Set the value in the Refers to box to =1.
4. Click OK.
Known Issues for IBM Cognos TM1 9.4.1The following section contains information about various TM1 components in the IBM Cognos
TM1 9.4.1 release.
Action ButtonWhen an Action Button is configured to open another worksheet and the Match Title Elements
option is enabled, you might receive a File Does Not Exist error if you change a title element before
clicking the Action Button.
You can work around this problem by dismissing the error message and clicking the Action button
a second time.
APIsIf you plan to use the new Security Admin and Data Admin groups in TM1 9.4 with a third-party
application that uses the TM1 C API, you may need to review and re-code some portions of the
custom TM1 application to handle the roles and restrictions of these new admin groups. For
example, some TM1 API calls, when executed for a user belonging to the new Security or Data
Admin group, may return a value or error that was previously unexpected with TM1's single admin
group.
Applications
Multi-Byte Characters in Application File Names
If you publish an application file that uses multi-byte characters in the file name, the file name is
truncated upon publication. In most cases, the file can be opened successfully using the truncated
name. However, if the file name uses GB18030 characters, the file name will be both truncated and
corrupted upon publication, preventing you from opening the file.
Audit LogWhen you set an “automatic” type sort for a dimension, the audit log records a specific descriptive
message about the action. An automatic sort is performed using the Dimension Element Ordering
dialog box available when you right-click on a dimension and select Set Elements Order.
For example, the following message would be reported in the audit log for an automatic sort change
to the “account” dimension:
"136","account","DESCENDING","DimensionSortElementsSenseproperty set for Dimension 'account': DESCENDING"
However, when you edit the order of a dimension in “manual” mode using the Dimension Editor,
the audit log records only a generic message. Manual mode includes changing the element order
Release Notes 11
Chapter 1: IBM Cognos TM1 Release Notes
by hand, or selecting Sort from the Edit menu in the Dimension Editor, and clicking the Set
Dimension order button followed by saving the dimension.
For example, the following generic message would be reported in the audit log for a manual sort
change to the “account” dimension:
21,account,Dimension updated: account
ETLDAP Tool
Multi-Byte Characters in ETLDAP Configuration File
If you save your ETLDAP configuration parameters to a file for later use, the file must use the ANSI
code page that is appropriated for the locale of your system. If you save the configuration file using
an ANSI code page that is incorrect for your locale, or if you save the configuration file with UTF-
8 encoding, the ETLDAP tool cannot read the configuration file.
Multi-Byte Characters in TM1 Server Name Prevents Access to Server through ETLDAP
On an English operating system, a TM1 server with a name that contains multi-byte characters
cannot be accessed through the ETLDAP tool. The server name will appear corrupted when you
attempt to log in through EDLDAP, preventing a successful connection.
Excel 2007
Export Filters
Export filters have not been addressed in this release.
Pivot Tables
Pivot tables are fully functional in Excel 2003. Due to a new data access component in Excel 2007,
TM1 pivot tables are currently not supported in the 9.4 release.
Customizing the Quick Access Toolbar
When customizing the Quick Access Toolbar, if you select the Customize TM1 tab from the
Office/Excel options menu, Visual Basic displays an error.
Excel may hang when exporting a slice from TM1 Web to Excel 2007 on a Windows Vista system
Excel may hang when exporting a slice from TM1Web to Excel 2007 on a Windows Vista system.
This can happen when using Excel 2007 with TM1 Perspectives and you click Open on the web
browser’s Download/Open dialog box. This is not an issue if Excel is not open or TM1 Perspectives
is not loaded. This is also not an issue if you click Save instead of Open on the download dialog
box.
Some Charts Containing Images May not Display Correctly When Viewed in a Websheet
If you are running TM1 Web with Excel 2007 on the web server, some charts that contain images,
such as gif, jpg, or png files, may not display correctly when viewed in a Websheet. The chart will
still appear but the images may not display.
12 IBM Cognos TM1
Chapter 1: IBM Cognos TM1 Release Notes
Formatting
Long Date Format Does Not Display Correctly in the TM1 Architect Cube Viewer for Non-English Lan-guages
The long date format does not display correctly in the TM1 Architect cube viewer for non-English
languages. In some cases, the long date format displays in English only. Additionally, if you use the
Number Format dialog box for a cube view and the Sample preview of the selected date format
does not display, then that date format will also not display in the cube view.
Attribute-Based Formatting is Ignored when Zero Suppression is Applied to Rows
Attribute-based formatting should always take precedence over view formatting. However, in 9.4.1
attribute-based formatting is not applied in slices or Active Forms when zero suppression is applied
to rows in a view.
Incompatible VersionsUsing a newer TM1 client with an older TM1 Admin Server and/or TM1 server is not a supported
TM1 environment. If you use TM1 Perspectives/Architect 9.4 with older TM1 servers, you will
experience unexpected behavior; the TM1 client may hang or not even open when started. If the
TM1 client does open, older servers may be listed in the Server Explorer, but the following error
displays when you try to log in: Log in Failed: SystemServerConnectionInvalid.
IIS x64When TM1 Web is installed on an x64 system, the PDFCamp printer driver must be set as the
default printer on the machine where TM1 Web is installed. If the PDFCamp printer driver is not
set as the default printer, users will not be able to export TM1 Web cube viewers or Websheets to
PDF.
Long StringsLong strings work in data input or SQL statements but not in object names (dimensions or elements).
Although the user interface allows input of long strings, processing them may cause a server crash
or truncation of data.
You cannot input long strings via Perspectives on Excel 2003 due to a limitation of the Excel 2003
API. However, you can input long strings via Perspectives on Excel 2007.
You can input long strings through TM1 Web even if you are using Excel 2003 on the web server.
MDX queries that pass long strings (> 255 bytes) as arguments to the following functions can cause
a TM1 server crash:
● CellPropertiesUpdateable
● Rank
● TM1FilterByPattern
Release Notes 13
Chapter 1: IBM Cognos TM1 Release Notes
Role-Based SecurityFor some administrative operations, the TM1 Architect/Perspective user interface does not initially
enforce role-based security. For example, a member of the DataAdmin group can begin to perform
security related tasks, such as managing users and groups, but will receive an error when attempting
to save these changes. For the SecurityAdmin group, some data operations may appear to initially
work, but only stop the user when they attempt to save the changes.
Although the User Interface offers a View option on the Processes menu for User Groups, only
Admins may use this option.
Rules EditorThe enhanced Rules Editor is available and is mostly functional; however, some elements are not
yet working properly. By default the older style of Rules Editor is enabled in TM1 9.4.
To enable the enhanced Rules Editor, set AdvancedRulesEditor=T in your Tm1p.ini file, as described
in the Operations Guide.
Navigation around Unicode characters may take more than one character press.
Rules Functions
DAYNO
The DAYNO function can return serial dates for date strings starting at January 1, 1960 (dates
string 1960-01-01 or 60-01-01). For dates after December 31, 2059, youmust use a four digit yearin the date string. For example, the date string for January 5, 2061 would be 2061-01-05.
TM1 Connector for Use With SAPA new patch is available for the TM1 Connector for Use with SAP that fixes an issue that occurs
when writing data into an ODS table with overall field length > 255 characters. We recommend
that all customers using the TM1 Connector for Use with SAP upgrade to the latest service pack.
For SAP BW 3.5, upgrade to SP12 and for BI 7, upgrade to SP2. You can order or download the
correct service pack from Cognos Support.
The TM1 Connector for Use with SAP is a separately licensed component. You don’t need to install
these service packs unless you’ve installed the TM1 Connector for Use with SAP.
TM1 PerspectivesYou cannot start the local server from the In-Spreadsheet Browser. You must use the Start Local
Server option from the File menu.
TM1 Web
Repetition of Rows in a Websheet
TM1 Web may incorrectly repeat the display of rows in a Websheet when they contain a formula
that evaluates empty string values in a cell.
14 IBM Cognos TM1
Chapter 1: IBM Cognos TM1 Release Notes
Differences in the Way Data is Presented in Excel vs. TM1 Web
In Excel, if you use an IF(A1>0)... comparison, when A1 is empty Excel treats it as zero and the
condition is false. If A1 has an empty string value, the condition is true. In TM1Web, an empty
string is equivalent to an empty cell; both are treated as zero. To avoid possible differences in the
way data is presented in Excel vs. TM1 Web, you should avoid using empty string comparison.
Sometimes Excel Does Not Close After exporting a Cube View with a Chart
In some cases, not all instances of Excel are closing after exporting a cube view with a chart from
TM1 Web to Excel.
These instances can be manually closed using the Windows Task Manager or by rebooting the
system.
Unsupported Excel 2007 Features
TM1 Web does not support Excel features that were introduced in Excel 2007, such as enhanced
conditional formatting.
Diagonal borders Not Supported In TM1 Websheets
Diagonal borders are not supported in TM1 Websheets.
TurboIntegrator/Chores
Sometimes a TurboIntegrator Process Does Not Zero Out a View
A TurboIntegrator process fails to zero out a portion of a specified view in the following scenario:
1. Open the process for editing.
2. Click theMaps tab.
3. Click the Edit View button.
4. Click Cancel.
At this point, the name of the view to be zeroed out is removed from the ViewName box. If youexecute the process, data will not be zeroed out from any view, possibly affecting subsequent pro-
cesses.
You can close TurboIntegrator and restart the TM1 server to restore the view in the ViewNamebox.
TM1 Architect Screen Refresh
You may need to refresh the screen in TM1 Architect to verify that chores are active.
Unicode
Display Issues when Exporting from TM1 Web to PDF on a System Using the GB18030 Chinese Char-acter Set
As a workaround, you need to manually configure the PDFCamp printer as follows:
Release Notes 15
Chapter 1: IBM Cognos TM1 Release Notes
1. Download the latest update for Adobe Reader.
2. Open Control Panel, Printers and Faxes.
3. Right click on PDFcamp Printer and select Properties.
4. On the in General tab, click Printing Preferences. The PDFcamp Printer Printing Preferencesdialog box opens.
5. Click the Font Embedding tab and then click the All >> button.
6. Click OK to close the dialog boxes.
GB18030 Characters Cannot be Used in Data Directory Path on UNIX (AIX and Solaris) TM1 Servers
GB18030 characters in the data directory path, as defined in the TM1s.cfg file, will result in an
E10) Data directory not found error when starting the TM1 server
Vista Performance Monitoring CountersThe TM1 performance monitoring counters do not work on Vista because the TM1PerfmonDLL.dll
file does not correctly register on a Vista system.
Workflow
TM1 Workflow on Excel 2007
If running TM1Workflow on Excel 2007, IBM Cognos TM1 Perspectives (Tm1p.xla) must not be
configured to autoload as an Excel add-in. If IBMCognos TM1 Perspectives is auto-loaded in Excel,
TM1 Workflow always loads the English version of the Workflow toolbar, even when Workflow
is configured for a different language.
To configure Excel 2007 to run TM1 Workflow:
1. Open the Excel Add-Ins dialog box.
2. Clear the checkbox next to IBM Cognos TM1 Perspectives.
3. Fill the checkbox next to TM1 Workflow.
4. Click OK.
5. Restart Excel.
Sophos Anti-Virus Package may Prevent TM1 Workflow from Loading Properly
The Sophos Ant-Virus package may prevent TM1 Workflow from loading properly. To work
around this problem, add the <TM1_install>\bin folder to the list of on-demand exclusions in
Sophos.
Workflow Documentation is not Automatically Updated when Upgrading from 9.4 to 9.4.1
Workflow documentation files are stored in your Workflow database directory. These files are not
modified when you upgrade to TM1Workflow 9.4.1, so outdated documentation will appear when
you click a Help button in Workflow.
16 IBM Cognos TM1
Chapter 1: IBM Cognos TM1 Release Notes
To make current documentation available from Workflow, you must complete the following pro-
cedure.
Steps
1. Open the <TM1_install>\Custom\TM1Data\TM1 Planning Manager V2 directory.
If you accepted the default installation directory, the full path to this directory is C:\Program
Files\Cognos\TM1\Custom\TM1Data\TM1 Planning Manager V2.
2. Copy the eng-planman_dot_pdf.blb and Planning Manager Toolbar_dot_doc.blb files.
3. Paste the files to your Workflow database directory.
4. Click Yes if prompted to overwrite existing files.
5. Restart Excel.
Current documentation files will now be available when you click a Help button in Workflow.
