Theme of National Symposium

The agrarian society is facing global challenges in terms of climate change, reduced rainfall, draughts and famines leading to huge economic losses. In Indian scenario, marginal farmers are found to be severely affected resulting into suicidal tendency in the farmer community. Therefore, the farmers are inclining towards animal husbandry as a source of assured income for supporting their livelihood.

The animal husbandry sector is also facing many challenges including neonatal mortality, drop in animal produce due to communicable diseases, resistance to antimicrobials, re-emerging trans-boundry diseases, free animal movements within and across the States and International boarders, scarcity of feed and fodder, malnutrition, imprecise marketing of animal byproducts etc. leading to reduced income of the farmers.

In order to improve animal productivity and thereby double the farmers' income by 2022, an agenda of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, GoI, these challenges are to be immediately addressed. Management of animal health and antimicrobial resistance is therefore of prime importance to reduce the huge economic losses on this account. The communicable, trans-boundry, re-emerging and zoonotic diseases are to be rapidly diagnosed and promptly controlled. The need of the hour is to develop rapid novel diagnostics and effective vaccines.

This symposium will serve as a platform for scientific deliberations on novel advances in Veterinary Microbiology for improvement of animal health and control and exterminate microbial diseases.
