Schools account for around 2% of UK greenhouse gas emissions, roughly the same as all the energy and transport emissions of Birmingham and Manchester combined. This is equivalent to 15% of the country’s public sector emissions.

What’s next?

Page 35: Ian Fordham

In March 2009, we launched the Great Schools campaign to start a national debate about what makes great schools and learning environments for the 21st Century…

… and to make the most of the UK’s biggest investment in school buildings

Page 36: Ian Fordham

At the heart of the campaign is a landmark inquiry into the impact of school environments on improved outcomes for children and young people led by Baroness Estelle Morris. We report in March & June 2010

Apr 09 call for evidence … big conversation… expert sessions… inquiry on tour… research… commission begins… UK seminars… witness sessions… survey … interim report… Mar 10 … final report Jun 10

Page 37: Ian Fordham

We have spoken to 800 people so far…

Our plan is to speak to 80,000…

We want to create the first open source inquiry and commission
