I would like to invite you to the seventh annual conference of the EasternFraudForum.

The EasternFraudForum brings together practitioners involved in combating fraud in boththe public and private sectors, to share experiences, ideas and information. We aim to promote fraud awareness and best practice in fraud prevention through our master classes, seminarsand workshops, run for our members across the region.

For our key-note presentation we are once again very pleased to welcome T/Commander SteveHead who leads the City of London Police Economic Crime directorate and chairs the ACPO National Working group for Fraud. Steve will be giving us a further update on the police response to fraud and in particular the progress being made on the national programme to establish a comprehensive network of regional fraud teams across the whole of England and Wales. We will then hear from Sally Griffiths of VFM Services about the psychological approach they useto undertake fraud prevention and detection interviews. Rob McCusker, the director of the centrefor fraud and financial crime at Teeside University Business School, will be introducing an internationalangle to the conference and will talk about the mitigation of transnational crime. Our morning break-out sessions offer a choice of hearing from Simi Bains from D & B about spotting suspicious/potentially fraudulent businesses or from Dr Graham Brooks from Portsmouth University who willbe talking about a personal favourite of his, Fraud in Sport. After lunch our break-sessions will onceagain offer some skills training where I will talk about deception and body language in face to face interviews. Alternatively Detective Inspector Gary Miles will give us a presentation about three pro-active anti-fraud initiatives being pursued by the Metropolitan Police. We will then hear from KateMcMahon and Tamlyn Edmonds two directors from Edmonds Marshall McMahon a firm oflawyers that specialises in the private prosecution of fraud offences which has recently secured aconviction through a private prosecution for an EFF member. Finally, due to popular demand, we willonce again be hearing from a panel of local Police representatives to answer some of your questionsabout fraud reporting, investigation and prosecution.

I hope that you will agree this is an excellent line-up of speakers who will provide an interestingand informative insight into ways in which the public and private sectors can work to combatfraud in these challenging times.

Our seventh conference is also an ideal opportunity for members to network with fellow anti-fraudpractitioners. Some you may have met at previous events, but we hope that this conference willprovide a very useful introduction for new members to the work of the organisation and the benefitsof membership of the EasternFraudForum.

The EasternFraudForum is a non-for-profit organisation and thanks to the continuing supportof Amlin PLC we are once again able to hold our conference at Essex Cricket Club and to keepthe fee for attendance, at a very reasonable £100 + VAT. Attendance at the conferenceagain includes a year’s membership of the organisation and as an additional incentive we are offering an “early bird” booking discount of 10% for all bookingsmade and paid for before 31st March 2013.

We very much hope you will want to join your fellow fraud professionals from across the region toensure that we continue to combine all our efforts in strengthening the fight against financial crime.I look forward to meeting you at the conference, and during the course of the coming year.
